This is a great article from Austen Lane, who was with the Jags for the last three years. Got cut at the end of mini camp. Never saw it coming. He got picked up by KC, but still, talk about having your world rocked. Makes you realize that, although it generally means nothing to us, and we're all too happy to see someone we don't like or think is very good get cut, we're talking about men who are just trying to establish a career, chase a dream, or just make a living doing what they love. Now someone tells them they don't want them anymore. Doubt, uncertainty, anxiousness, grief. If you've ever lost a job, for whatever reason, you know what I'm talking about.

Good story, but this isn't a whole lot different than getting cut at any level, or the multitudes of people that get laid off or aren't chosen for jobs or promotions.

It's like hearing a celebrity movie star lather on and on about the "amazing things" their 3-year-old does, as if our 3-year-olds don't do the exact same things.

They seem to think they're above the rest of us, which is understandable because moochers, coaches, and parents tell them this their whole life.

It is tough for anybody to rejected. I remember was the last one cut from a team in high school and most recently did not get a job that I wanted and felt I should have. Then I put things into perspective and it is not the end of the world. At the time, it might seem like it but there is worse things in life than not getting NFL playing career like the lost of a child or someone you love.

I can kind of see what you're trying to say, however I think it's a little silly to claim that "this isn't a whole lot different than getting cut at any level, or the multitudes of people that get laid off or aren't chose for jobs or promotions".

For the guy in the article (and I would guess most pro players), playing in the NFL is literally a life long dream. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure the majority of our society isn't working their dream job, hence the difference between them getting cut/laid off from their job vs a fringe NFL player getting cut/laid off from their's. In my younger years I worked some crappy jobs and there were employees who were actually happy/relieved to get the ax. Not so much in the NFL.

Also you're comparison with celebrities lathering on about their kids (although accurate as a statement on it's own) doesn't really fit as a comparison here.

Great article. It's a good reminder that for everyone who reaches the pinnacle of success, there are perhaps 20-30 other people who were equally as talented and worked just as hard, but saw their hopes shattered.

It is life. I doubt that five percent of the people in this country get to make a living doing what they love. These guys are lucky to get free educations from their God given talent. I would like to get paid millions to deer hunt, fish and post on various message boards, but it is not happening. Welcome to the real world where dreams are crushed every single day.
