Did we skip 2025? Bobby Wagner last season was pretty average, maybe showing signs he is done?

we go by stats, if my stat is better tahn your stat we ignore reality and go SEE STAT says hes better.

other than that, you are correct. but no more non fiction good sir.

Improve in terms of talent. This entire notion of you need players that fit your specific scheme is such BS. Good players fit almost any scheme, and coaches that can’t adapt their scheme to fit different player styles/body types aren’t very good coaches to begin with. The we need a scheme fit over talent approach is how we ended up with taco over watt.

This defense isn’t filled with young prospects at 11 positions where you’re worried about guys getting blocked for the season. If anything let these young guys face some serious veteran competition and let the cream rise to the top.

You can get a Bobby Wagner on the field without issues. Neither Overshown nor winters is a true MLB….you really don’t have a true one on the roster.

Joey Bosa is a rotational player at this point in his career, but a very good one. You telling me he wouldn’t be a stronger roster spot to take than a Sam Williams? We that confident in the Liufau position change if a Rashawn Gary or EZ go down in camp this year?

This defense has some good players for sure, but this is still a ways away from the point where we shouldn’t be considering any possible upgrade we can find….and at all three levels IMO.
Always tough to thread the needle and cover every contingency while simultaneously making sure you're not stopping progress for the young guys. Given our short window with Dak, I'd lean towards more vets rather than making this a developmental year.

we are not competiting, we are NOT 1 player away, we arent, OMG this guy knows our system and will immediately teach other, younger players. Holding up talent so we can get what? 1 more sack? will that sack come in a win? will it put us over? Will the extra interception be the one to catapault us into the play offs? no, but building and getting the correct pieces for next year or the year after will be much smoother.

again, i ll give you Sean Lee, every sunday, but if hes on the sidelines, what good is he doing you? Heck, i ll give you Dan Marino, did any of his stats get him over the hump?

id rather roll and see what we have, use that to make the second year better. This is a new NFL, this is not the 80s or 90s.

I would completely disagree. It's not like this was a 4 win team a year ago facing a true multi year rebuild. This was a team that was two games away from being over 500, and I'd argue they've gotten better since the end of 2025. There should be playoff expectations for this team this season, and failure to do so should not result in a 'Oh shucks...I guess we can try again next year' type of attitude. They have a qb in his mid 30s, a premier WR possibly facing his last season with the team as he is on the tag, and they went out and gave up multiple premium picks for Quinnen Williams. This front office is not acting as if this a team in a multi year rebuild, and they should be shamed if they are not turning over every stone possible to upgrade this roster. My big fear is that this season has all the makings of a 9 or 10 win season and a playoff appearance talking about how close we are, when the FO made some solid moves but refused to really open the wallet to give this team a true chance.

Not sure what Sean Lee has to do with anything? Honestly Sean Lee is on the roster right now in Overshown. Not only that but they are considering switching him to an even more physical role at the Mike. This is the exact situation we are trying to avoid by looking at a guy like Wagner who probably makes a perfect rotational player than can still excel on early downs while giving a younger more athletic player opportunities on passing downs.

Who exactly are these young talented players we would be holding back by adding to the roster? This argument that we aren't talented enough to compete, but also have too much talent to bring anyone else in because we might block someone is a joke. Either we have good players or we don't. If we don't then we should add better ones....If we do then expectations should not be this low.

Wagner in Dallas in 2022 and 2023 under DQ while still with a lot left in the tank would have been optimal.

Now, I'd pass. Watched him play every week leaving in Washington, DC. He is not as good as he once was even 2 years ago. He's running on fumes. Granted, he is a HOFer who at his worst is still better than a great deal of players. But, everyone hits the wall eventually. I'd rather it not be in Dallas when he does.
Zach Thomas did okay.

thats right, you can argue it, doesnt make it correct. Dallas was not in contention. Fact.

Ok I can respect that opinion, but what’s the issue with bringing in other players to compete? We’re really worried about blocking players who arent good enough to field a competitive team?

dang, you didnt word it correctly, but you did hit on it. yea bringing in guys to compete, whether they get it or not, as long as its not gauranteed, yea, that i can and should hve gotten on board with. Ty.

As players get older in most cases the decline when it comes comes steep, it starts with he lost a step to he lost 5 steps. Wagner would be great in a in season fill in for a handful of games. I also suspect the FO probably has some insight also with DQ in Washington and them not tripping over themselves to re-sign the guy for their system says a lot. Bosa could be interesting but it seems he is made of glass. If Dallas was 1 player away and needed a solid edge guy for the rotation maybe but I can't believe I am saying this but I would rather have Clowney over Bosa right now.

I’d take “pretty average” over whatever we had last year. Right now we’re relying on Overshown and a bunch of unproven dudes and rookies.

I think Moore would be a great add but Wagner isn't a 3-down LB.

I would much rather go after Milano who has a different skillset.

Bosa was not good last year. He's still solid at setting the edge I guess but he doesn't really have any juice as a rusher.

He was 24th in pressures in the league last year and 33rd in pass rush attempts.

Based on last years production I’d take him over Gary.

They were both 13-14% pressure rate. Neither gives you much juice. Clowney, by comparison, was 17-18%
No issue there. I'd bring Clowney back without hesitation.

I don't love to use win rate as a stand alone stat because there is a bit of subjectivity there depending on the source, but last year Clowney was 16.7%, Bosa 15%, and Gary down to 11.9%. When putting all the data points together I'd like to see this Cowboy team continue to look to upgrade at edge. They have some talent there, but there are a lot of IFs at the position for the Cowboys. I'd love to see them go grab one more veteran player who you know what you'll get instead of banking on development and bounce back candidates.
