MNF- Bills vs Bengals

It annoys me that Joe Buck keeps saying he went down after making a hit...the offensive player ran into him. Some people have mentioned commotio cordis, which is a case when someone gets struck hard in the chest and goes into cardiac arrest. Happens apparently in baseball with players being stuck by a ball. Good news is that immediate CPR and defibrillation give the injured party the best chance of survival if that is the injury.

The game is not cancelled. It’s suspended.

That means it could happen later this week. Maybe it doesn’t happen at all and gets cancelled.

I don’t know how you make the game up unless we get positive word that he’s going to pull through in the next 24 hours.

Let’s just hope that his light continues.

For as violent of a sport as football is, I’m a little surprised they didn’t have any contingency plans for a circumstance like this….that’s either ignorance or just indifference to player safety
They should have been prepared to treat it
Sounds like it is a known possibility in sports

I honestly don't believe they've ever planned for something like this. No one knew what to do, and it took time for them to figure it out. I understand your point, and Risens as well though. I dont think there was a "good" way to handle it.

I’m really not trying to be insensitive.

it’s hard to know what the right thing to do is. Especially since nobody can ask Hamlin himself. Like I could see some people wanting the coverage and I could also see some people not wanting any coverage and as much privacy as possible.

There prolly is no right answer to be honest.

I'd call that good news. He clearly has a pulse and vents will keep him getting oxygen. Hopefully, he will start breathing on his own soon, or already is, but it's not quite sufficient yet.

I do think it isn't necessarily bad news.

So glad they cancelled. This is extremely serious

If his heart stopped, and they had to restart it, the prognosis may not be evident for a while. Most critically, it will depend on how long the brain went without oxygenated blood flow. Sometimes all systems come back on normally and right away, sometimes there’s a delay, or a limitation in function either temporarily or permanently, and sometimes no brain function presents itself. If the tweet about him having a pulse but not breathing on his own is true, that is not ideal as it signals lack of brain function for at least that specific involuntary function. Hopefully that function returns soon or the report was wrong

Definitely be praying for this kid and his family tonight
