MNF dilemma: How to entice casual fans, not alienate purists

If any of you get Fox Soccer Channel ( I get it on digital cable) they have a show called Fan Zone where they do just that. Its very entertaining to listen to two drunk guys, one from each team, try to call the game.

Seen that once or twice, couldn't stand it.

I hate the MNF crew and especially Young, Scott, Tafoya, Suzy (don't know last name), Mike T., and Tony K. The sideline reports are the worst by far.

It's quite simple, replace those losers with a coach, a vet, and an expert analyst that actually knows x's and o's, possibly vet players and coaches of the featured teams when possible...

Exactly. It should not be that hard, you just need knowledgeable guys who are also characters too, just a bit of personality. I really don't care for a guy like Faulk but we know there are a lot of characters who used to play on the lines who would be very entertaining to hear as they talk about what goes on at the line of scrimmage.

Kornheiser is terrible. Jaworski is not much better. Ron is better for pre-game type stuff. Maybe he could improve. I don't see Kornheiser getting better.

Tafoya and Kolber don't bother me. It is some of the stuff they are asked to do that bothers me. Just focus on the game at hand and not other stuff. Both are very knowledgeable. Kolber used to be outstanding on NFL Matchup.

MNF has been very unlucky on the games they get. Some by poor choices and some by bad luck. They could not have predicted that Michael Vick was going to have his troubles, which effected the Atlanta games. FOX and CBS don't pull great ratings for their stinker games, but they have other headline games to overcome that every week. ESPN and MNF don't have that luxury.

I don't consider myself a purist, nor am I a casual fan. I am a fan of football. Entice me to watch and I will. So will a lot of other people. You can't worry about purists. You also can't worry about the casual fan. Those are extremes. Focus on the core of your audience who like good football, good match ups and straight forward broadcasts. Gimmicks like Kornheiser hurt more than they help.

Want a bigger MNF ratings?

Get decent announcers and better games.

Tirico and Jaws are fine imo. Kornheiser would even be alright if he would shut up more often. I can even stand the sideline "reports" when they don't distract from the game.

Are you all just complaining to complain, or have you really forgotten how bad the previous ESPN crew was? Because, "let me tell you something"....

Jawarski knows the game and is not terrible but I don't think he is good at the job.

There are former players out there like Don Meredith who have a entertaining personality and still know the game. They need to go find one.

Truth to fact.... MNF is lost in the weeds, ESPN has destroyed the tradional MNF games, Who is this Kornhieser, Trico and anyone else they seem to portray. ESPN has destroyed the tradition of MNF. There is no must see MNF games or announcers that carries the Horward Cosel carisma. ESPN blew it, the only way it had chance was to put Chris Breman in as announcer, (all for not).

SNF is the new game in town, NBC has done it right and captured the outstanding games and the football fans. No need to stay up and waste sleep on a meaningless ESPN MNF.

Dare to compare ESPN's version of MNF to NBC SNF... its no contest.....
