Just curious, does that include apps like Tapatalk. I know I like being able to go into there, and just browse various NFL boards, common opponents, or teams that I might want to hear their fans thoughts about upcoming games, or news. Not sure the web lets me do that as effectively.
Not sure which part you are asking about. I looked into adding Tapatalk support but to do so requires installing their code on the CZ servers that gives them full control of the site and its data, including users' private data. This is not something I am comfortable with at all. Even worse is the fact that if someone ever finds an exploit in their server-side code, they'll gain direct access to the affected sites.
The reason Tapatalk got popular was because most sites, including the old CZ site, simply did not have mobile support and in the early days of smartphones, trying to view a desktop-sized site was quite difficult. Even the sites that provided "mobile themes" were dumbing down their site to the lowest common denominator of resolutions in order to support the users with the oldest devices.
Mobile devices, including smartphones, have dramatically changed in the last couple of years. They are becoming powerful computers rather than simply web-enabled phones. The leading smartphone manufacturers are increasing the size of their displays, CPU power and screen resolution. Apple's iPhone got larger with the iPhone 5 and just yesterday news leaked that they were looking at larger screens for future iPhones and iPads.
A year ago, mobile support was an annoying secondary feature that web developers had to deal with. Now web developers are designing sites with mobile devices as their starting point using "mobile first" development. There are sure to be some bumps along the way because the users who were used to seeing dumbed down and large text versions of a site have to transition back more traditional web-based interfaces. Eventually the developers and the users will find a sweet spot though and they will both be better off for it as mobile users will have access to the same set of features and abilities as the desktop/laptop users.
