The Big Trade Down

The NY Jets acquired the 4th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. The Dallas Cowboys receive DE Muhammad Wilkerson and the Jets 1st round pick at #20.
Love to have a QB at #4 but if Carson Wentz is gone.,,,its time to trade down. Pick up 2 developmental QB's and let them compete.

FA. Acquisition
- Cedric Thornton
- Alfred Morris

Dallas Cowboys select
#20 Noah Spence DL
#34 William Jackson CB
#67 Spencer Drango (Free's replacement)
#101 Dak Prescott QB
#131 Paul Perkins
#189 Kevin Hogan QB

If Romo was 5 years younger or didnt have durability concerns, id take this in a heartbeat. Id much rather live with this than take Ramsey or Bosa at 4.

I like this trade idea also..but I bet we could squeeze more than Wilkerson out of the trade

20
2nd rounder
Wilkerson

For

4

I would do that trade

those 2 picks from the Jets are worth 1230 points. Our #4 pick is worth 1800 and I would venture to guess that Wilkerson is worth more than 570 points which is more or less equal to the 33rd pick in the draft.

all reports indicate that they are not actively shopping him, so I doubt they deal him for in essence our second round pick.

I think that's roughly what Wilkerson is worth...probably a little bit more...but not much more...surely not worth a top 15 pick like in the scenario in the OP

12 sacks from a 3-4 DE is worth more than a top 15 pick. Even if you blow off this year as him performing in a contract year, he hit 10.5 in 2013 and averaged 6+ sacks over his first four years before hitting 12 this year, pushing his average to 7+. I think the Jets would be reluctant to part with #20 and Wilkerson for the #4 pick, especially if the QBs are gone.

Yeah, I mean..if the QBs are gone, there's no hope..gotta assume one qb is there..

I don't think I'd move from. 4 to 20 for just Wilkerson...

I wouldn't because the 1 tech isn't that important in our scheme and I think Thorton will do a fine job. But if I was SD, Baltimore, SF or New Orleans, you likely aren't getting a better player than Wilerson in the first round. SD may decide that's too rich for their taste, but Baltimore, SF and New Orleans would make out great dealing their first for Wilkerson if that's what the Jets want.

No to Spence and Prescott. Yes to this type of thinking overall though. I would want more for the #4 pick. I'd need a 2017 3rd or even 4th rounder as well. It's not so much because the trade wouldn't be fair, but what about the fans? At some point you do something to make the fans feel like "they know what they are doing in the Dallas FO"

At this point, I'm going to pass on Prescott and get another running back at 101. I like the Kevin Hogan pick. He just seems to remind me of a QB that will end up being really good in this league and we will all be thinking "how did we miss that about him?!?!?"

I would do that trade if Wilkerson does a long term team friendly contract since he was franchise this year. I would also maybe want a 3 rd and maybe next years first. That is the price you pay to move up from 20 to 4. I don't think it is unreasonable as the Eagles were willing to give up more last year to get Mariotta from the Titans. Also we would be passing Goff so the price is should be steep.

I like the thought process. However, if we picked up Wilkerson in that trade, I don't think I would also draft a DL with the first pick.

With Wilkerson our starting line could be RDE Lawrence, 3-tech Wilkerson, 1-tech Thornton, LDE Crawford. I would probably add a speed rusher at some point, but No. 20 is too rich for me after that big DL acquisition.

Let me tell you what I think about trading down. (I don't think Wilkerson comes in a trade like that btw and Spence worries the hell out of me. Dude has problems and doesn't seem to be learning from them)

Why would you want to draft Spencer Drango to be Free's replacement when Drango is an OG and projects to be an OG in the pros? I can understand drafting him to be a good swing player for OG and OC but not to replace Free.
Unless you are proposing to move Free to RT which I think would be a mistake.
