Needs:
of course d-line but a close 2nd is the safety position. Safeties were horrible to average.
O-line stills needs help. Leary and Bernadeau did admirable jobs compared to the last 2 years but there is no depth or guarantee they get better. Can Free manage to be consistent for another year?
Free Agency: with little to no money they should focus on OG. Matt Slauson and Waters should both be signed.
Using drafttek to look at projected available players for the slot in each round:
1st round (16/17)
Trent Murphy/Kony Ealy/Louis Nix/Cyrus Kouandjio
It will be interesting to see if a top OT drops to Dallas if they go that way despite having Free play better. Cyrus could play guard and later move to RT or LT and play 10 years. He is the BPA. Nix has a knee issue and underperformed this season which leaves it to Trent or Ealy. Trent is RKG and has great production but with average athleticism. Uses his hands well and equally effective against run and pass. At 6-6 261 Played OLB in 3-4 and will have to transition to putting his hand in the ground. Ealy is raw and got better and better as the season went on. Ealy offers the ability to drop inside to 3T on passing downs. Needs to play the run better.
Pick: Trent Murphy (S15, TFL 23.5 Int 1)
2nd Round (48)
Aaron Donald DT/Will Sutton DT/ McCullers DT/ Deone Buccanon S/Criag Loston
The worst D-Line position for Dallas was the 1 technique. Donald and Sutton are ideal 3t tackles but at 6'0 there will be questions about their ability to perform in the NFL as they did in College. Some might think McCullers is not the quick 1 gaping DT needed fpr a 4-3 but watching tape shows a dominant athletic force that commands double teams and collapses the pocket. Buccanon and Loston are tall hard hitting athletic safeties- better than Church or Heath.
Pick: Deone Buccanon Washington S (6'1 215 T114, Int 6)
3rd round #79
Pick:
Anthoney Johnson LSU (DT 6'3 305) potential 3 tech. (S3 TFL9 T35)
4th round #110
Pick:
Karlos Williams Florida (RB 6'1 223) - Murray is inconsistent in health and playing in his last year.
