Well, it's the day before the longest day of the year, Christmas Eve in April. By the way, since tomorrow is our Christmas Eve and Thursday our Christmas I think it sucks that we have to wait until Prime Time to open our presents and have to watch so many people open theirs before we get to open ours.

This last mock is a mixture of my own feelings and what I think Dallas is looking at based on reports, etc.

Well, I have come full circle on what I think Dallas is going to do. As I sit here right now I believe if Fletcher Cox were available he would be our pick. I also don't believe he gets out of the top 10 now. Which brings me to Mark Barron. For the last couple of weeks I have insisted he is the guy I believe we will pick, and I stand by that, but I also believe he is going to be gone before we pick.

That brings me back to David DeCastro. His visit wowed some people. He's intelligent, driven, and talented. Therefore...

#14. David DeCastro, OG, Stanford, 6'5", 315.
While I firmly believe the Cowboys want to go Defense with this pick, I also am convinced that if the two guys they want are gone they will either take the best player on their board, which is DeCastro, or they will trade down. I am happy with either option. If DeCastro is also gone I suspect they will try to trade down and if they can't then they'd take Michael Brockers. DeCastro is our starting Center or RG with Bernadeau taking over at Center.

#45. Jared Crick, DE, Nebraska, 6'4", 280. I believe he has a chance to be the best 3-4 DE in this draft class because of his work ethic and motor. Were he not injured in 2011 he is probably a top 15 pick. I compare him to Justin Smith of the 49ers. Look at the havoc he creates. Crick does the same when you watch him. He simply gives OTs fits because he never stops attacking. Starts day 1 opposite Lissemore.

#81. Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt, 5'11", 192.
While I do believe we would have loved Barron, I don't think we like the rest of the Safeties all that much, and won't take one before round 4 at best. So we will focus on CB depth to build for the future. Heyward has the kind of intangibles coaches love. First of all he has some swagger and at CB that helps. He is intelligent and works hard. he finds the football. 15 INTs at Vandy. Could start one day.

#113. Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma, 5'10", 192. He could go much sooner, but the all time NCAA receiving leader is being held back by injury, or pushed up by potential. He is a perfect fit for Tony Romo and Jason Garrett and I wouldn't be surprised if we moved back into the 3rd to take him. We may not look WR at all given the confidence Romo has in Holmes, but if this kid is there I can't see us passing on him. If he is gone watch for T. Y. Hilton and him to be used on Kickoffs. Pure speed.

#135. Antonio Allen, SS, South Carolina, 6'2", 210.
While he is not Mark Barron, he is a productive football player. His Senior saw good production in particular. He forces fumbles, picks off passes and wraps up on tackles. He won't shirk Special teams duties and he is very good on Safety blitzes.

#152. Tank Carder, ILB, TCU, 6'2", 236. He attacks the football. That is the best thing you can say about a 3-4 ILB. Has a great motor and attitude. Will make a mark on Special Teams and with his limited opportunities at first. Smart, instinctive football player who just wants to win.

#186. Hebron Fangupo, NT, BYU, 6'1", 325. The only negative you will ever hear about this guy is that he is only 6'1". He is a bull. I am convinced this is the best NT in this draft. Why isn't he higher? Simply put he never played in the same place two years in a row so scouting on him is jumbled. He has the kind of motor, girth, and run stuffing ability that turns a player into an eventual starter. Great teammate who lifts other guys around him all the time. My pet cat in this draft. I'd take him much higher if I could.

#222. Drew Butler, P, Georgia, 6'1", 203. I hate taking Ks or Ps in any Draft, but the fact is we need one. I prefer Anger out of Cal, but he will go a quite a bit earlier. Takes the job from Chris Jones. Just pin them deep and it helps this team big time.

Well, there you have it, a Defense heavy Draft that fills all needs except 3rd string QB and TE.

So this is it, huh? I'm thinking Decastro is our likely "consolatoin" prize, too, which is hardly a bad thing.

Have we shown any interest in Crick?

I love it, I think if we trade down and get an extra 4th or 5th then we should select Russel Wilson or Nick Foles. I think we can find an UDFA that can fill out our 3rd TE need and go into the season without a lot of holes.

Problem is you got the Brockers and DeCastro situation reversed. It's becoming evident that Brockers is the 3rd option and DeCastro is the trade back option.

I'm sorry I want DeCastro as well but everything I hear says he is the "if all else fails" option.

Yeah, he came in for a visit.

I don't think I do man. I have heard the interest in Brockers too, but I think they go for the better player. DeCastro did impress.

this is the sort of non-sexy, lunch pail draft that sets teams up for the future

i take it in a heart beat

only change i would make is

113: Phillip Blake (OC)
135 or 152: TY Hilton

Brockers is one of the those "lots-o-potential" guys and thus, to me, he is scary...I still want Coples despite the bad press on him but if the choices are DeCastro of Brockers, you GOTTA go DeCastro...if Cox is there, he is the guy even if Barron or DeCastro are there as well (IMO)

Fair enough, I'm not 100% sold either way, I think after Barron and Cox it could get a little dicey. I hope your right.

I really hope you're right between DeCastro vs. Brockers.

No-brainer pick if available.

I think there will be many better players available at this pick.

#81. Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt, 5'11", 192. While I do believe we would have loved Barron, I don't think we like the rest of the Safeties all that much, and won't take one before round 4 at best. Is he physical enough to play press man coverage or is he a finesse player like T-New?

Love this pick!

I would prefer Brandon Hardin at this pick.

Seems more like a run-and-hit 4-3 type of LB than a 3-4 stack-and-shedd type.

#186. Hebron Fangupo, NT, BYU, 6'1", 325. The only negative you will ever hear about this guy is that he is only 6'1". He is a bull. I am convinced this is the best NT in this draft. Better than some of the much higher rated NT types in this draft, but much does he add much to the team over Josh Brent?

#222. Drew Butler, P, Georgia, 6'1", 203. I hate taking Ks or Ps in any Draft, but the fact is we need one. I prefer Anger out of Cal, but he will go a quite a bit earlier. Takes the job from Chris Jones.
Ican't really remember, was Chris Jones bad last year?

If you look at Callahan's success running the ball in NY, it was because his dominant center. For that reason, I think DeCastro will be drafted as a center. He is the key to making Callahan's run game go. Mangold came in the first round, and I think Callahan will get his man here too.

Selecting Brockers if DeCastro is there is dafting for need and not BPA, which I think is a mistake.

In the second round, I could live with Crick, but would prefer Branch if he is available. I am convinced that some very, very good players, players that were thought to be in the 10-20 range will be available in the second round.

I could live with the rest of your draft, but I do question Broyles availability for this coming year. Will he be able to contribute this year or not? Will he need a year like Carter? If so, then we need to wait as long as we can to draft him. No more redshirts.

I read somewhere that DeCastro was the #1 center recruit in the nation coming out of high school. Naturaly I cant find the link now.

I would almost literally cry out of pure joy with this draft. I will take a DeCastro-Crick/Wolfe combination any day of the week over Brockers-Brooks/Schwartz if we're looking for that OL/DL combo in the first 2 rounds.

I don't at all believe that Konz/Zietler/Silatolu will be there at 45, and the drop off from DeCastro to the next tier is far greater IMO than the drop off from Brockers to Crick/Wolfe/heck maybe even Reyes/Still.

Hayward I don't love but you can't argue his production, and CB is always a need. Broyles I do love but I'm really torn on him or Hilton. Hilton has DeSean Jackson speed, but Broyles just seems to have that "it" factor... an intangible ability to find an opening and catch the ball. Hilton would help more in the return game, but Broyles is more refined at WR. Either would be great additions.

I think the other knock on Fangupo is age. He'll be 27 by season's start.

The thing about Ben Jones is that he's technically sound, smart, has great drive, but not too strong at the point of attack. He'll get pushed around some at the next level.
