Guys:

Just got the Ourlads Guide: Our selections (according to Ourlads) are:
-McNeill-OT
-Watkins-FS
-Manning-CB
-Nicholson-LB
-Sypniewski-TE
-Smith-DT

Not wild about this draft because McNeill has history of back problems. With our luck on injuries I'm not willing to take a chance. Note: They had McNeill the second rated Tackle, Whitworth was number three and Justice number four.

Interesting note: They had Ngata the top rated DT, but their entire write up trashed him.

Where is the Wr we will take in either rd 2 or 3? We are old and short at that spot.

with fabini, adams, pettiti and possibly columbo we are not going to take an OL man in the first. our targets would be LB, Saftey, CB, WR.

I tend to agree with you.

I think the only way we'll take an OL in the 1st is with a trade down to end of the 1st or to top of the 2nd round. But I doubt it at 18.

Why is everyone so against taking an OT?

If an OT is the BPA, then we go for it. It's not like Flo and Fabini are world beaters and can't be beat. Heck, if we take the best players in the draft, it's win win.

Why reach for LB, Safety, CB, or WR if a top tier OT fell to us???

Funny, I see:

Round 1) Best defensive player available in round 1 or Winston Justice if available (though he won't be).

Round 2) Best OL available.

Round 3) Best FS available unless round 1 was a DB in which case we draft a LB or maybe WR.

What's it going to be then, eh?

They are never right with their projections.

I agree. They are absolutely horrid and have been for years.

I am doing a fans mock over on another site and McNeil went 35th overall to the Jets.

He is not worth an 18 pick...imo.

Who said it would be reaching to draft a LB, S, CB, or WR?

Manny Lawson, Wimbley or Carpenter might very well be good value at our pick. Jimmy Williams would very well be good value if he fell to our pick. Santonio Holmes might be very good value at our pick. It's not like if we don't draft OL then we're reaching.

If a good OT slips to us at 18, but Jimmy Williams or Huff slide as well, and Manny Lawson is sitting there too... We could easily go in anoter direction from OT and it not be a reach.

I don't think we'll go WR and I don't think we'll go DB unless Huff or Williams slip to us and we just have them rated so high that we have to take the BPA. That leaves LB, OT, and NT. With Fabini, OT is less of a pressing need. Ferguson is the starter at NT, and although we do need depth behind him, I don't think we'll use a first rounder for depth... again unless they rate Ngata very highly and he slides.

The main thin is... we have so many options that there literally is no reason to reach at any position... and I don't think we will.

McNeil may have a narrowing of the spine issue (ala M.Irvin). So, I don't see us taking a player that has this kind of medical question when he would have to butt heads with M.Strahan twice a year (ala Erik Williams). It only took M.Irvin 1 headbutt into the Philly turf to end his career.

PROJECTION:
cowboys-tnl.gif

Dallas Cowboys
Round 1, Pick 18

NFL comparison:
Orlando Pace, Rams

MARCUS MCNEILL MEASURABLES Height: 6-7
fraction_5-8.gif
Weight: 334 40-yard dash: 5.07 10-yard dash: 1.79 20-yard shuttle: 5.00 60-yard shuttle: Broad jump: 8-2 225-lb. bench: 353-cone drill: 8.19 Vertical jump: 31 Wonderlic: 20-yard dash: 2.37

Run blocking: Lightning speed allows him to easily reach the linebacker level. Shows athleticism and great bulk. Takes good angles to his man; can completely overpower defenders. Must improve footwork and technique; occasionally lunges. Grade: 7.2.

Pass blocking: Exhibits great knee bend in pass protection. Rarely gets caught off-balance. Has long arms and adjusts well in open field. Gets set quickly and then uses size and bulk to force defenders wide. Makes full use of strong hands. Needs to polish technique; sometimes plays too upright. Grade: 7.5.
Initial quickness: Is athletic and quick. Sets very quickly and shows great range. Must keep weight in check to prevent sluggish and inconsistent play. Grade: 7.4.
Strength: Has a tall, impressive frame. Shows the lower-body strength to drive on run blocks. Uses strength and bulk to anchor well against bull rushes. Has powerful hands and rarely loses when locked on. Grade: 7.4.
Mobility: Is an exceptional athlete with great speed for his size. Shows nice footwork with room to improve. Recovers quickly and can handle double moves. Works to get into linebackers. Weight and conditioning can slow him late in games. Grade: 7.5.
Bottom line: A starter since the middle of his freshman season, McNeill is an experienced and gifted athlete. There is some concern over a medical condition with his back, but it appears he has been cleared to everyone's satisfaction. If he continues to control his weight and overcomes concerns about his level of intensity, McNeill may be drafted as high as mid-to-late Round 1.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is a huge man who didn't help himself much as a senior. Started poorly, but came on late. Is a durability concern. Is a strong run blocker who can drive back defensive linemen. Is an athletic player who can reach and squash linebackers. Is surprisingly nimble, but loses balance at times. Has trouble with edge speed at times. Plays tall and bends too much at his waist. Struggles to combat pass rushers’ counter moves. Fails to sustain blocks. Is a little similar to the Eagles’ Tra Thomas.
