By now my agenda is plain as the sun in a cloudless noon sky. I believe the Secondary is the most lacking area on this team. Nearly 320 yards passing per game convinces me of this. This year several teams need to take players who help a special player fall to us.

1. Panthers, Cam Newton. When no dominant player exists, you take a QB.
2. Broncos, Marcel Dareus. They have to fix the DL.
3. Bills, Blaine Gabbart. I hear they want Von Miller, but I don't buy it.
4. Bengals, AJ Green. If the Bills go Miller, they jump at Gabbart. They need QB and WR in the worst way.
5. Cardinals, Von Miller. They have to have a pass rush.

Cowboys trade #9 and #71 to the Browns for #6.

#6. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU, 6'0", 219. Simply the best fit for Dallas and the best player in this Draft. I believe it is a perfect meeting of talent and opportunity. There will be a Salary cap and unless he re-works his deal Newman is probably gone. This is a must position. Even over OL.

#40. Stefan Wisniewski, OG, Penn State, 6'3", 300. I would love to trade down here and get a 3rd back. I believe the starting 5 OL has a chance of being back in 2011. Not what people want to hear, but I've been telling people to "be prepared." That doesn't mean we won't look to shore up the OL through Free Agency if we can and definitely the Draft. Wis starts in 2012 if he doesn't win the job outright for 2011. He could.

#109. Deunta Williams, FS, North Carolina, 6'2", 200. Either Michel Huff, Brodney Poole, or Daniel Manning will be brought in to work with a re-signed Sensabaugh. Or perhaps he walks and two of them are signed. Either way, Deunta Williams makes great sense to gamble on.

#140. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh, 6'2", 255. I believe he could be a difference maker on this team and that is why we should not hesitate at all. Short yardage is a specialty and this guy is a weapon. Top notch blocker and a very serviceable receiver.

#171. DeMarcus Van Dyke, CB, Miami, 6'1", 176.
A blazer who has impressed the Cowboys so far despite his slight frame.

#209. Kristofer O'Dowd, C, USC, 6'5", 305. A nasty player worth a late look for the future.

So you think we'll still trade up even with all this chatter about Smith?

I'm looking for 2 starters and 1 to be a special player out of this draft.

This draft gives us the best prospect in the draft which can realistically happen at #6 and also a versatile starting caliber inside OL that will start right away and be a leader for our line.

Deunta Williams is the best safety in this draft when healthy.

Quality, not quantity.

I like it a lot and would be ecstatic if this was our draft.

We can pick up a RT in FA if that's what we have to do. BPA's all the way.

I'd hate to add Peterson only to give up Newman. We get younger at a key position, but we're way too think at CB to hold steady there.

Love the Wisniewski pick. I'd look to get into position for a RT at #109 and don't see the need for a S there if we're resigning Sensabaugh and signing either Manning or Huff. Even if our OL starters remain in place next season, now is the time to be adding strength and coaching up young talent on the line.

I like all three of the latter picks.

If there was a player who would re-structure his contract on this team, I would think Terrence Newman would be that player.

I don't want him to go either but I don't want him at $10 million/year.

agreed 100%.

i dont think you take PP and outright cut newman without at least talking with him about a salary reduction and having PP in the fold gives us some leverage in those talks , At the end of the day as much as we all love t-new he isnt a $10 million a year player doesnt mean we dont like him just bussiness.

I would love this draft and i have been preaching the quality over quantity mantra for some time now. Shortsighted fans will dislike it because you didnt check off every one of the draft needs the experts say we have but you dont pass up on speacial players like PP for the right to draft a project o-lineman (3rd round pick) or cb that you can only hope turns out to be a fraction as good as peterson. pretty decent draft, you drafted mostly everything except 2 key positions

1. What are you going to do about defensive line, im still hearing cowboys wont resign spears, and after he got hurt we suffered on run defense. Like randy white has tried repeatedly to hammer into brady tinker's thinking, it all starts with offensive and defensive line. The cowboys need pressure on their front line on defense. Only true pass rushers they have are ware and ratliff. That the cowboys must have a defensive line pass rusher.

2. where are your future OT's, (I am hoping you dont believe in brewster) A little hope for sam young.

Columbo is on his last legs. I still feel that Ansah is one of your starting safeties, and best I remember Ansah was one of your pet cats last year at safety:D . I still have high hopes for another CB on the team that no one is talking about. Know who?

Teddy Williams, granted if no cba and he cant get in to learn defense scheme and work more refining his techniques, Teddy might have trouble but if cba is signed and you can have some OTA in may, and april, and training camp, then I still feel Teddy Williams is a diamond in the rough.

Teddy Williams was moved to WR.

that was just temporary. The cowboys had injuries at wr, so they moved teddy to wr for alittle time. Thats what I heard. :star:

Between Jerry selling the "trading up" interest and the selling of extremely interested in Tyron Smith, I think he is trying to trade back.

I don't believe we need DL.

Bowen, Hatcher, Olshansky, Lissemore, and Gathers at DE, Ratliff and Brent at NT. 7 is plenty.

If you read what I said in the Wisniewski comments you already know what I think will happen at OL.

Like the draft, but totally disagree about us trading up for Peterson (we wont) and even if we do end up with Peterson somehow, Newman isnt getting released. He's too valuable.

I've been saying for months that Peterson is number 1 on the Cowboys board and if they can get him they will. If they can't then they will either select Tyron Smith at #9 or try to trade down and still take him.

I firmly believe this is exactly what their plans are and I am fine with either option.

Bowen and Hatcher could both be gone. Hatcher should be gone IMO, he's a JAG. Olshansky was a doormat last yr. Ratliff is a very good player and Lissemore looks like he has potential as a rotational guy soon. Love Brent as the back up NT.

But dont agree with the statement that DL isnt a need. I think its definitely an area of concern.

I saw that, but just dont see how that is possible. Why?

As I understand it, cowboys are at about 173 million pay roll roster right. The NFL wanted to ante it up to 145, while players wanted to amp it up to 155.

Thats still almost 20 million cowboys are over if you use the 155.

I dont see cowboys signing many free agents, in fact, they may have to cut some veterans like Columbo, Bigg, Spears, etc...

I still have high hopes for Geathers.

He was one of my pet cats when he came out for the draft.

Those numbers are way over what I saw posted numerous times in various articles the past two weeks.

I agree with you, what do we gain by drafting a potentially great starter and losing our only decent not great cb? We must sign Newman also or do we sign the Raider FA CB?

Close, but $137.1 million.

320 yds a game???? What stat is that?

What we need is pass rush. We have Ware, Ratliff, and a bunch of jags in the front 7. Be it an OLB or a DE, we need another rusher.

If Peterson is there at 9, great. If not, trading up would be a waste of resources.
