It's early but I'm having fun thinking about next year.

1. DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson, 6'1", 210. He is everything you want in a Safety. Great cover skills. A nose for the ball. Tackles with authority. Straps on the helmet and goes to work and his job is creating chaos.

2. John Moffitt, OG/C, Wisconsin, 6'5", 320.
I am convinced we need to shore up the Interior OL and for the future. This is not a man, this is a mammoth.

3. Matt Reynolds, RT, BYU, 6'6", 325. Can also play all along the interior OL. Is a mean, mean man who likes to punish would be tacklers. Older brother's name is Dallas.

4. Chykie Brown, CB, Texas, 6'0", 185. He will climb, but for now he is rated as a 4th rounder. He can fly, especially to the football. We need CB depth.

5. Dan Wenger, C, Notre Dame, 6'4", 305. Did I say I want to shore up the interior OL? I meant it. Plays in a good offense to come to the NFL.

6. Owen Marecic, FB, Stanford, 6'1", 245. He is a battering ram who will open holes whether he has the football or the RB behind him does.

7a. Philip Livas, PR/KR, Louisiana Tech, 5'8", 175. He is the weapon I keep wanting at return specialist.

7b. Quinton Porter, CB, UNLV, 5'10", 185. CB depth and decent speed and ball skills.

I will get a lot better as the season and off season go along. But how is it for a 1st look?

Love the first two picks.

If we could somehow get Travis Benjamin from The U! on this team...That dude is electric on kickoffs and looks like the next Devin Hester.

Please no Chykie. I love my horns, but that dude might as well be nicknamed toast. Always looking in the backfield and getting beat on double moves. Great athlete, who plays well when he's concentrating, but lacks the ball skills and game smarts of the other two Texas corners.

Great mock. I knew before opening this that you would have Owen Marecic in it.

You guys are making me want to go back and look at DeAndre McDaniel again. I haven't been very impressed with him but I'm the biggest "We need a safety" advocate out there. I like Deunta Williams and Rahim Moore this year but McDaniel is high on a lot of people's mocks/value boards.

Love the Moffitt pick and Matt Reynolds as well. Do you think Reynolds comes out early if he isn't projected as a surefire 1st rounder?

Yeah I do think Reynolds will come out.

Deunta Williams, is he the FS at UNC? If so, I wouldn't hate that at all.

Rahim Moore is a ball hawk. I can't deny that being a Pac 10 homer.

Let me sell McDaniel though. 9 INTs. 2 sacks. 6.5 tackles for loss. 98 total tackles. I've only seen him one time this year, against Auburn last week, but you could see his #2 everywhere.

I think the kid is really football smart.

McDaniel reminds me a lot of Michael Hamlin........4.54 vs 4.57.......12 career picks vs 14.

I would like our FS to run better than that in today's NFL.

I like Marcus Gilchrist at Clemson......5-11/190. Played FS last year and had 107 tackles. Playing CB this year. Averaging 18 per PR and 27 per KR. Very versatile.

Lmao, except Mcdaniel is a ballhawk and has incredible instincts. That dude us always around the ball. He's unreal.

With three free agents, I think Dallas picks up a DE at some point in the draft. But I agree with the overall philosophy of focusing heavily on the interior OL and defensive back.

They said the same thing about Hamlin and he had 14 career picks.

Hamlin wasn't even remotely close to Mcdaniel as a prospect. You can easily see that by watching tape.

Just how much "tape" do you have on this guy?

I'm not a Hamlin fan.

I'm just saying size, speed, production they are basically identical.

I don't really think we need another SS trying to move to FS.

Go get a real FS.

Hos, I like the first three picks but I would be surprise if Reynolds makes it to us in the 3rd.

as been said, Hamlin was a ball hawk in college. IMO he isn't physical enough to be a true SS and lacks the range to be a true FS (kinda like Ken Hamlin).

Hate to say it, but ILB may be a need.

Couldn't agree more.

If you are right on Lee, JW and high draft pick oh well.

You need at least 3-4 good ones anyway.

Greg Jones in the first round.

never get to see stanford play, how does owen compare to john connor? cause that guy is leveling people in new york

Greg Jones in the first round.

Greg Jones, ILB, Michigan State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 228.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Projected Round (2010): 1-2.

Strengths:
Great speed and closes in a hurry
Elite sideline-to-sideline range
Covers a lot of ground in zone coverage
Excellent change of direction and agility
Love his motor and gives 100 percent effort
Extroardinarily productive
Starter since freshman year
Good tackling technique; wraps up and rarely misses
Consistent tackler in space or in traffic
Nice vision and awareness
Comfortable in space and under control
Accelerates to the ball-carrier
Outstanding instincts
Effecient with minimal wasted movements
Great timing and pass rush sense
Fluid hips
Big-time leader with terrific work ethic

Weaknesses: Struggles to stack and shed blockers
Lacks some bulk and size
Could be a little more physical
Not a punishing tackler; doesn't deliver a lot of big hits
Only two forced fumbles in 39 games
Strictly a 4-3 weakside linebacker until he adds mass to body frame
Could improve hand use

Summary: Jones reminds me a lot of 2010 linebacking prospect Daryl Washington out of TCU because they are both ridiculously athletic, rangy weakside linebackers. Jones is a run-and-hit WILL linebacker who finds ways to make plays and has great intangibles. I'd like to see his size get up to around 235-238 as opposed to being below 230 pounds.

Jones plays inside linebacker at Michigan State, but is going to probably have to move out to the weakside in the NFL. I'm giving Jones a second-round grade to start the 2010 college football season, and I expect him to get drafted in the top 50 picks when it's all said and done. If he has a monster senior year and puts on some size, he could very well become a first-round pick.

Player Comparison: Will Witherspoon. Witherspoon is a talented, productive weakside linebacker who possesses a very similar playing style to the Michigan State product

also like

Quan Sturdivant, ILB, North Carolina
Height: 6-2. Weight: 232.
Projected 40 Time: 4.62.

an

Josh Bynes, ILB, Auburn
Height: 6-2. Weight: 239.
Projected 40 Time: 4.63.

Greg Jones is 240 now.

Hoping Lee and JW make us take ILB off our needs list until later in draft.

Did anyone watch Clemson vs Miami?

McDaniel not what you want in a FS for sure. He got toasted for 2-3 TD's by Leonard Hankerson.

The announcers kept on saying he is like an extra linebacker because he does his damage in the box.

That's fine for a SS, especially back in the 2005 NFL.

We ask our SS to cover 1 on 1 a lot.

Not what we need at all IMO.
