OUR OWN PLAYERS
G Joe Berger (unrestricted)
This trial must end, Berger has not shown he can handle the duties of a NFL OG
QB Brooks Bollinger (unrestricted)
Dallas tried and failed, it's time to restructure the QB depth chart
DE Stephen Bowen (restricted)
Showed flashes while appearing in 14 games in 08'. At the age of 24 it's worth the investment to tender him the minimum and see what may develop.
LB Kevin Burnett (unrestricted)
The Cowboys are said to be leaning towards letting Burnett test the market and let the market determine his value. His career has been littered with injuries and he has never really developed into the play making LB Dallas though they were getting. It may be time to cut ties.
DE Chris Canty (unrestricted)
Another player the Cowboys are said to let test the market. It seems as if Canty will price his way out of Dallas and the Cowboys might not be able to contend with the offer Miami is expected to make. After a promising 07' Canty dissapointed in 08' and Dallas may be forced to look another direction.
TE Tony Curtis (restricted)
Never really understood the Cowboys infactuation with this TE. He seemed to be a Bill Parcells pet that Dallas could just not chase away. The better option may have been on the practice squad in young Rodney Hannah. It's time for Curtis to reunite with Bill Parcells.
S Keith Davis (unrestricted)
The Cowboys seem to have a soft spot for Killer Keith Davis and while his special teams contributions cant be argued, he simply can not play S in this league. At age 30 and coming off a injury plagued 08' its time to finally cut the ties for good.
WR Sam Hurd (restricted)
A young promising receiver who just could not escape the injury bug in 08'. Dallas will tender him the minimum and see if he continues to grow.
DT Tank Johnson (unrestricted)
See ya, good bye, dissapointment........that is all
OC Cory Procter (restricted)
Like Berger, Proctor is over matched and out of his league. It's time to find a reliable backup at OC
WR Miles Austin (restricted)
Probably the biggest decision the Cowboys need to make. He may be the most unappreciated WR on the Cowboys roster with the most potential. If Dallas does not at least give him a 2nd round tender he will draw plenty of attention on the open market and that might not even be enough. This one needs to get done and Dallas will take care of it.
OTHER MOVES
WR Terrell Owens
The story is well known, his skills are unquestionable, he legacy in the NFL more so but when is enough of enough. Anyone could go one for pages as to why he should or should not be a Cowboy next year but the bottom line is, this is a move that has to be made. Dallas needs to cut ties but remember, as seen in Philadelphia, just because the player is gone does not mean the circus is going to be quick to leave town. Cutting TO now means a half season of media recovery.
S Roy Williams
Another hot topic in Dallas. Either you love him or you hate him. He needs to restructure or find a new home. This is one number change he will not be excited about. It was fun while it lasted.
QB Brad Johnson
Someone give me one reason he should be on the roster in 09.......
OLB Greg Ellis
May be a strong statement but outside of Owens, Ellis may have found a way to be the second biggest distraction in Dallas. It seems he won't be happy until he gets what he wants and it's time to let him look for it. Problem is, he might be the only person who thinks at age 33 he is still a hot commodity.
OT Doug Free
Another OL expirement that has not panned out and must end
Others Let Go: Zach Thomas, Alonzo Coleman, Courtney Brown, Tra Battle, Sam Paulescu, and Travis Wilson
FREE AGENCY
ILB Ray Lewis (33) Baltimore
Yes he is 33 years old but have you seen him play lately? Yes he has had his run in with trouble but can you find anyone in the NFL to critisize him as a man? Yes he is a firely leader that demands respect and demands even more from his team mates. The Zach Thomas expirement did not work but comparing Zach Thomas to Ray Lewis int he Cowboys defensive system is like comparing Troy Hambrick to Emmitt Smith.....ooops
DE Igor Olshansky (26) San Diego
Chris Canty is leaving via FA, Igor played for Phillips, knows the system and may be the high motor type guy Dallas needs. Besides, DE is going to be a priority this off season. Why not start out with someone who can play and knows the system.
OG Elton Brown (26) Arizona
Started 5 games in 2007 and was Arizona's top backup OL in 08'. Could be starting in the right situation and could possible challenge in Dallas. If anything, it's a dramatic upgrade from Joe Berger and provides some solid depth at the OG position.
OC Chris Morris (25) Oakland
Versitile OL who can play OC or OG. Appeared in 16 games for Oakland in 08' and started 1. Only allowed 1 sack in College at Michigan St and is the type of OL you want on your depth chart.
CB Kelvin Hayden (25) Indianapolis
Drafted in the 2nd round Hayden is a young CB who is only 25 years old but entering his 5th season in the NFL. Has really started coming into his own the last 2 years posting 3 INT's in both and taking 1 to the house. Has appeared in all 16 games his 1st 3 years but was slowed by injuries last year missing 6. Great special teams contributor. The Colts have shown much intrest in retaining Hayden but may let him test the market first.
TRADES
QB John Beck Miami
For the 2nd year in a row Miami has dangled Beck in front of Jerry Jones. Unlike last year when Jones thought the QB position was solid he now knows it needs to get younger and more athletic. Parcells has a itch for TE's and would love to get his 6th round pick back that was traded for Jason Ferguson as well as his pet TE in Tony Curtis. Beck has no future in Miami with Pennington and last years 2nd round pick Henne in front of him. Jerry pulls the trigger knowing he is going to look for a late round QB to hide on the roster in the draft as well.
Dallas receives QB John Beck from Miami for TE Tony Curtis and the 2009 6th round pick Dallas received from Miami in the Jason Ferguson trade.
