Mocking The Cowboys Draft: Ten Options For The Ninth Pick

The playoffs aren't even over yet, and it's already mock draft time. Love 'em or hate 'em, we just can't resist them. We know they mean absolutely nothing, and that the guys making the mocks have about as much insight into who the Cowboys will draft as we do. Still, once the season is over - we like free-agency, but we love the draft.

With Andrew Luck and Janoris Jenkins deciding to stay in college, two potential top 10 picks are gone and the landscape at the top of the draft has changed significantly, as it probably will every week until the draft. You would have thought that that would further limit the options for the Cowboys in the ninth spot, but far from it: ten mockers offer ten different players for the Cowboys to take in the ninth spot.

Below you'll find choice quotes on which players some mock drafts like as our No. 1 pick. So without further ado, let's take a spin around the Cowboys mock draft....

I couldn't pull this up.
Are we allowed to cut and paste if we give source credit? If not, we should be, as it not an infringement.

Yeah, bad link but this should work:

I don't think it has to do with credit, I think the link just got jumbled.

I feel like unless we're getting Nick Fairley, there is no DE in this draft worthy of being taken 9th overall. Not in the 3-4.

I do like Bowers, but he's just at that spot between 3-4 DE and 3-4 OLB that makes things precarious. Not strong enough to hold the point at DE, not agile enough to drop into coverage from the OLB spot.

I came away unimpressed with Costanzo when I watched him the other day.

Prince or Quinn will be the two most likely to choose from.

Peterson/Fairly won't be there.

Bowers is a 4-3 DE.

No OT is worthy of #9 overall.

I like Bowers. But like you, I'm not convinced at all that he would fit in a 3-4.

There others that I'm interested in, but not at #9...or at least not yet.

Thoughts on Darius, Quinn, Haywood (at 3-4 DE?), Paea (maybe at NT), Cameron Jordan?

It appears to be a deep draft for D-Line but do they fit the 3-4 and are they worth a top 10 pick? Those are the obvious questions.

JJ Watt and Carimi would be realllllll nice but you want see Carimi in the 2nd Round.

I feel like we can get similar production w/ a DE taken at 2/3.

As for Bowers he reminds me of Julius Peppers. Athletic as hell but not always totally into the game. And as a 5 technique he wouldnt have the ability to speed rush around a tackle. Totally different skills. I hope someone else takes him high.

Drew Boylhart (thehuddlereport.com) loves Dareus and Haywood. He says Dareus is less boom-bust than Fairly and is the much safer pick. He also says that Dareus is more stout against the run than Fairly. As for Haywood, he believes that after the Senior Bowl and Combine Haywood is going to shoot up draft boards. He'd make an excellent 3-4 DE. I've watched Quinn, and I think he's a D. Ware clone. He's the most dynamic and clearly the best pass rusher in the ENTIRE draft! However, getting him means saying goodbye to Spencer, and I'm not sure we're ready to do that yet. So, my choice would be Dareus, Haywood, then Quinn. But, if JJ is ready to say goodbye to Spencer, then Quinn goes right to the top of the list.

Dareus shouldn`t be in the mix. Dareus will be another Spears. He is good against the run with very little pass rush. His coaches came out and said that he had a off year due to playing all 3 downs. So if a run stopping , 2 down DE is the choice with the 9th pick, we should just stick with Spears. I live in the middle of SEC country and watched Bama weekly. Dareus went several weeks that his play was unnoticeable.

I agree that we could just resign Spears, Dareus really shouldn't be a consideration unless he somehow tests off the charts.

Oh-oh. You just compared Quinn to Ware, that is a no-no around here. Seriously, would you bypass a Ware-like player to retain Spencer, if the choice was yours?

Ditto. I have seen this kid play several times. Quinn is a monster. He can play End or LB. You can never have too many of these types of players.
