Mocking the first 8 - you are on the clock

I'm assuming no trades at all and we stand pat.

Of course, given JJ's history, that's not likely.

I'd be happy with Carimi and/or Sherrod as well in the late 1st if can manage to trade down.

We need to come out of this draft with 2 quality starters and at least 2 solid role players/contributors.

Yes, we stand pat with the 9th pick.

What I'm saying we can either trade up with our 2nd back into the 1st or we can still keep that 2nd and trade next years 1st and this years 3rd or 4th and snag either tackle if they sit there late in the 1st.

We're gonna get a shot at 1 of these 5, maybe a shot at 2 of these 5:

Peterson (highly unlikely)
Dareus (probably first DL taken, unlikely now)
Fairley (Probably going to fall to us or close enough)
Bowers (Drops and if he doesn't Peterson, Dareus or Fairley get closer to us)
Quinn (Either him or Miller will be around, whichever is not taken by Arizona. Miller I would take before Quinn but will be taken before Quinn so Quinn will be the one around)

So I would take any of those guys 9 overall. Without any hardships value wise in the draft or to our team.

Then I got get the tackle if 1 of those guys sits at the bottom of the 1st or early 2nd.

If I trade next years 1st rounder I get a late 1st rounder for this year and draft 1 of those tackles.

Then I go in the early 2nd and get Cannon, Ijalana or Wisniewski.

If there is a year to trade next years 1st it would be this one because of the value we get at the bottom of the first for 1 of these needed tackles.

Plus we're built to win now.

Quinn, Smith or Bowers.

Bowers scares me with his injury issue so if the team thinks they are too serious to take a chance on, take him off the list.

Smith is a position of need and we could have bookend tackles for years to come. Who knows maybe he eventually becomes the LT and Free moves to RT.

Quinn, hard to ignore his abilities and production when he played.

In your scenario I take Robert Quinn. Than Mark Ingram or Julio Jones even though we don't need a WR . I will not touch Tyron Smith, especially this high. Too risky for the cheddar. Cannon I grab in the 2nd and I get a FA RT like Clabo.

BPA in top 10 with the best shot at being a star. I could always trade Julio Jones within the draft because teams do want him, they just don't think we would pick him.

Ingram would become our stud RB we have not seen since Emmitt and is also a special player. Felix spells him and is used in 2 RB sets, as well out of the backfield catching the ball. We also have our dynamic return man in Felix.

Choice starts his crying, which he will, I trade him for a serviceable backup OL or depth CB. Barber is gonzo anyway.

Get Hysnoski out of Pittsburgh too and this is 1 backfield no opposing defense knows what to do with. Any of them could block, carry the rock or catch it out of the backfield.

BPA picking in the top 10. Period........

I agree. I don't think we need to 'settle' for Tyron Smith just because we need a tackle and he's the highest rated one. I think we should just pick whoever's on the top of the board...Even if it's another WR or a RB.

I'm not sure about Smith

I totally agree. But there would have been reports out already if his knee is really that bad.

He's going to do his pro-day and probably shoot right back up. He's still sitting as a top 3 pick in most drafts even with the concern.

Tyron Smith's knee surgery scares me more than Bowers. Especially since he has to gain and keep on weight that he doesn't naturally carry.

If we got Bowers at 9, that would be the steal of the draft.

Bowers. With all the uncertainty at DE, he could start Day 1 at DE or OLB. If Spencer doesn't work for it in a contract year, we'll know he isn't the player we thought he was.

For the record I cant see Denver taking Peterson so we should at least be in striking distance.

At that point it should be Tyron. You have 1 OL you can trust past this season.

Im starting to be ok with Tyron @ 9 even though I would like a trade down.

If he can be an elite player than why not?

I just think Gabe Carimi is much better value and we can add some picks and maybe even move our 2nd rounder into the 1st.

DaQuan Bowers, DL if Healthy or Robert Quinn OLB. It simply has to be one of these two if available as your Mock went down. I probably take Bowers than look OL at Pick #40.

Yeah, I think in that scenario, I go with Bowers as well.

If he checks out medically, then I run the card up. He reminds me of Ware--not athetically, just the way he plays, hustles.

He's got Prince gone before we pick in this scenario

lol, I overlooked him because he used everyone else's last name. I guess he didn't want to risk misspelling Amukamara. ;)

I guess I'd go with Quinn.

anyone else feel free is equipped to be our franchise left tackle?

Don't burst the bubble of man love for folks pet cat. Smith is an undersized 2yr. starter at RT, so why shouldn't he be projected to be the future franchise left tackle?

And for the record, I take Carimi at 9. It is a reach but he is the best OL in this draft and we need him to step in right away.

Bowers is not a 3-4 DE.

The Cowboys are not nearly as down on Anthony Spencer as Cowboys fans are. So I think that takes Quinn out of the equation.

Colombo is due a $2.6 million roster bonus as soon as the "league year" starts. I think he is gone and we need a RT and the best is Gabe Carimi, while the one with the highest ceiling is Tyron Smith.

I probably take Smith over Carimi, but I wouldn't flinch at either one.

Good points, Hos. If the choice is between Smith and Carimi, I take Carimi--no question.

At #9? The point of the thread is that trading up or down is out of the option.

Taking Carimi at #9 is BIG TIME drafting for need above all else, and I think that's a good way to throw a pick away.

I guess that's why with no trading up or down I would take Smith at 9. He fills a need, but also has the potential to be a blue chip player in a year or two.

I've read the Cowboys have done a lot of homework on Smith, maybe more than some other teams since Smith came out as a junior and not a senior.

I'd be really curious in how the Cowboys brass would rate T Smith. As a top 10-12, blue chip prospect? Or on the same lines (or maybe worse) than Solder, Carimi, etc.?

I think quite a bit comes down to that. Maybe the Cowboys rate Prince, C Jordan, Watt, etc. significantly higher than T Smith (or not)? I have no idea.

Better at least get that out of a top 10 pick. That won't be the case with Smith.

Carimi is a reach though. Why not get a defensive player and try and move that 2nd rounder up to get a tackle?

Or give up our what should be a pick 20-32 1st rounder next and a later round pick from this year for a late first rounder his year? Then we can grab a Carimi or Sherrod.

Tyron Smith but....
I just hate the fact that Washington picks right behind us, and I have the feeling anyone we pass up (e.g. prince) is going to turn into a thorn in our side for years to come. If we get smith we're gonna say, man prince is a beast too bad we didn't draft him, if we get prince it will be, man tyron smith is a beast, we should've taken him. just our luck

Normally, I'd agree. But I like Carimi more than others, and feel like he would be worth the #9. We know he can play tackle. He'll be a 10 year starter in the NFL. Tyron Smith, OTOH, is a gamble. Carimi's a better football player, right now, and I believe that he will for his whole career.

And just because everyone on the internet says that Carimi is not good value at #9, how do we know that that's what NFL teams think? Carimi said himself, teams told him that they think he's the best tackle. He won the Outland Trophy. Every year there's a pick where analysts and internet sites say, 'that's a reach'--but NFL teams disagree.

That will not happen. If Peterson is at 6 for Cleveland there is no way Jerry does not make that call. The Browns at that point could easily select AJ Green at 9.

Well obviously none of us know where the teams rate any of the prospects, if that's what you're getting at.

I definitely like Carimi better than Smith, but at #9, I'd be real shaky on that move.

Sure every year there is a reach that turns out to be good, but there are also quite a Ted Ginn's from time to time as well.

With this i think theres 3 options, most plausible is trading down and getting more picks to fill more needs. My dream would be trade down with NE and let them pick either Quinn or Jones. My Thought would be most teams would call to pick Jones. NE's first priority is always Brady. So get Jones for Brady would be the smartest thing they could do.

Option 2, Select Amukamara and either move him or Newman to FS.

Option 3, Trade up for Peterson.

Dallas wins with all 3 situations.

IMO i think option 1 is the best tho. Dallas has serious depth problems.
