Modern Day NFL defense vs Cowboys fans

The game thread early on got quite out of hand today.

A lot of posters in there bashing the defense and calling them trash and whatever other thing you can think of.

The truth is you guys just have to get used to defense being played this way. Dallas is playing defense at a high level. You’re going to worry yourself silly and get into stupid arguments about this defense.

Just know that all defenses are trash and Dallas has a defense that is not only less trash than others but at times it can make plays for our team with pressure and turnovers.

The Rams, who easily have the best defense in the NFL IMO, got absolutely lit up by the Cardinals today like they were nothing.

This is just the way the NFL is played.

The Panthers had the leagues #1 run defense. Did that run defense look like anything special? Rhule was trying to sneak a 12th man on the field today.

The rules of the game have changed and it’s all about offenses. The Cowboys’ defense has improved considerably this year. Quinn has them ready to play and he’s maximizing their talent. Unfortunately they’re going to give up scores. But fortunately, they’re going to generate a lot of turnovers.

Coming into this game, Dallas led the NFL in turnover margin. I have to assume they’ll still be #1 after today.

I think you make some good points.

I wouldn’t say defense is trash and defense doesn’t matter.


Defense is still important in the NFL.

but what is “good” defense has changed over the years.


What matters most is:
Turnovers forced
Points allowed
3rd down %
Splash plays.


Defense are going to give up points. The NFL is designed that way. Forcing turnovers, and getting the ball back for your offense is the most important thing.


The cowboys defense really played well today.
I’ll take 28 points allowed (with some of that coming in arguably garbage time) and two turnovers forced on most Sundays.

this is just nfl defenses youre not going to be shutdown and limit teams to 0 points unless theyre a team in disaster like the Texans

our defense is fine which is actually something we should celebrate this time last year the defense was so bad we only had two options the other team scores in 2 plays or 10 plays

I fully admit that in the heat of the moment in the game thread, I can be a little overactive, but after the game is over, I tend to be more even keeled.

That said, you're right, defense just isn't what it used to be and all the rules favor the offense.

So, as long as our defense can keep it somewhat close (which is all I've ever wanted), I like our offense's chances to close it out.

The only thing the cowboys defense did bad today. Was giving up those 3rd and longs.

honestly that was their only real problem today. Other than that. They played well.

No doubt. This team is going to compete with almost anyone as long as the offense plays at a high level. Whether it be with the pass or the run. Certainly there are things to cleaned up on the defensive side of the ball. But this a much improved football team.

Have a look at the Rams defense today. They easily have the best defense and it still can be yuck at times.

The NFL doesn’t want you playing defense. Fantasy football is this huge elephant in the room that the NFL makes rules to benefit and hide behind “safety”.

Great post. Totally true. The days of the shutdown defense are long gone. Make plays when you can and put the game in your offense's hands

People have overrated the Chiefs defense for a couple years now.

They point to stats and all these other things.

The truth is the Chiefs defense is trash but the offense puts so much pressure on opposing teams to score that the defense can take advantage of them being overly aggressive.

Dallas is playing that brand of defense right now. Get a lead, Parsons pins ears back, QB makes mistakes.

I’m so glad the cowboys drafted him. Dude can literally rush the passer from anywhere on the line of scrimmage. It’s amazing.
