Moehrig To Cowboys: 'More Than A Safety' - NFL Draft Trade-Up Target?

Would you rather take Moehrig or Jamin Davis with our second pick (regardless whether it’s at 44 or we move up, which we almost certainly would have to do)? That would be a very tough decision for me, but it would be a win-win either way.
Moehrig all day. Solid value at linebackers later in the draft

isn't he the dude that can't \ won't tackle?
He's a willing tackler but his technique needs some work.

Overview
Ascending defensive back offering coverage and positional versatility for today's brand of NFL football. Johnson offers enough field fluidity to cover the slot and showed off impressive instincts and ball skills to excite teams about his potential as a high safety. His combination of vision, field awareness and instincts usually have him in the right place at the right time. Johnson is willing as a tackler, but needs to clean up his technique and approach to bolster his run support for the next level. His high football IQ should aid his transition to pro football as a future starter with a strong upside.

Surtain and Moehrig is the dream

Surtain/Moehrig
Parsons/Moehrig
Surtain/Barmore
Parsons/Barmore
Moehrig/Barmore

Insert Horn in for Surtain in any of those and they are all dream scenarios for me.

Was listening to a Las Vegas Raiders beat reporter on ESPNRadio, and apparently Moehrig is in play for the Raiders at 17.

It seems to me that S is more important to this D than CB, so maybe we should be talking about Moehrig more

Honestly...............the notion that safety is more important than corner is just completely ridiculous. And there is no telling how long Quinn is going to be here anyway. You take the corner over the safety. The presence of Quinn doesnt change what we know based on the entire history of the league.

Good point. If we're thinking beyond scheme, that's true

I'd kill for Moehrig or Holland, but I think they both sneak into the 1st round.

If Surtain is there at 10 you run up and punch your card in and be happy you will have a top several corner in the league for years to come.

He’s a better corner than Horn and even a healthy Farley.

Horn is big time penalty prone.

Surtain is the best, most NFL ready DB in this draft and just turned 21 this month.

Physically and fundamentally checks off all the boxes. Competitively he’s a national champion and has faced all the best opponents just about flawlessly. When they threw to his side they paid for it.

This guy comes up and tackles also at 6’ 2”, 200 + lbs.

If this draft wasn’t so loaded at QB, WR and OT you would be looking at a top 5 pick to get this guy.

Be happy if he is there at 10 and know you got 2 young hot shots starting for you at CB for years to come.

This guy is smoother than Jalen Ramsey and will be better than his dad was.

I question moving up for this TCU Safety when there's other FS who can do what he can imho.

I mean the guy has ridiculous balls skills..I think it's like 13 or 14 takeaways in 24 games or something..but every report I've seen is that nobody wants any part of him..he is supposed to be ridiculously athletic too..tore his acl so he wasn't able to test..but he's a 4.3 speed type of guy w great size

Actually I saw one guy that loved him now that I remember..Chris Simms loves him..he's his #1 safety
You are really gonna have to fine tune Cisco in the pro's, but one doesnt accidentally get that ball production. He isnt at the top of my list, but I wouldn't have drafting him at the right spot

Moehrig is at 23 on the Athletic's consensus big board. Packaging 44 and 75 can maybe get you as high as 27. If he slips to the end of the round, you could consider it, but he does have to slip. If he slips into the second, you could get there with 44 + 99.

Not a big fan of either trade, though.
He could always slip by virtue of being a S. That's something we have going for us with Moehrig. Teams may reach on lesser graded DE's, CB's and OT's in the later part of the first. I see him as a first round talent that has a good chance of going in the 2nd

We need a safety and everything I've read on Moehrig has been great, highlights are great and then I turn on the game against West Virginia. I don't know, is anybody else concerned with his play here? Maybe it was just this game, check it out

The 6-foot-1 defensive back might be another versatile chess piece that finds success no matter where he lines up. According to Pro Football Focus, Moehrig lined up 313 snaps inside the slot, but over 170 snaps at either free or strong safety in a base formation.

Considered by many as the NFL Draft's best safety, Moehrig is at his best when roaming the plains and having the chance to pounce on a play. The former Horned Frog recorded seven career interceptions and 21 pass deflections as a three-year starter.
