Monday AM Practice, August 3rd (10:42am)3rd Aug, 2009Cowboys with two more practices today, they’ve gone through some early special teams drills, now limbering up, then special teams again…and we’ll keep you updated throughout the morning.

As of now, I do not see Tatum’s Stephen Hodge dressed out, so his return from PUP may have been delayed.

He is going through the stretching drills with the team, but not in his jersey or pads.

Any questions I can answer about the team in the meantime?

Cowboys started their position drills with offense on one end, defense on the other.

We’ll see some offense vs. defense competition coming up:

11-on-11…maybe some contact?

Romo shotgun, Barber to his right, pressured by Jay Ratliff, pass in the flat for Marion Barber is incomplete.

Romo under center, Barber 1-back, now Felix Jones comes in motion and dots the I behind Barber, flip to the left–not much room, Olshansky was huffing and puffing, and Ken Hamlin there to make the stop.

Romo shotgun, has time—throws over the middle incomplete, Austin and Witten were in the same vicinity.

Romo shotgun, Felix Jones in motion left stops on the edge, now Witten in motion right, and Romo hits him with a slant…Witten made a one-handed catch and then brought it down.

Romo under center, Barber 1-back, Barber left guard, Keith Brooking there immediately.

Romo shotgun, Jones in motion stops at Romo’s right hip, QB draw for some decent yardage.

Cowboys are obviously working on a lot of their motion plays–and that’s something Wade Phillips talked about on the opening day of training camp.

Kitna shotgun, throws left side, batted in the air by DL Derreck Robinson, incomplete pass.

Kitna under center and now backs into the shotgun formation, Tashard Choice to his right, now in motion right, slant near the end zone for Martellus Bennett, a little high, incomplete pass.

Kitna shotgun, Hurd motions right into the slot, delay handoff to Choice who always makes every run look good.

Kitna shotgun, Choice to his left this time, now in motion to the left, nice pass into the left seam for Patrick Crayton, 8-10 yards.

Kitna under center, Keon Lattimore moves behind him in motion, and then Choice moves in motion behind Lattimore. Fullback dive, fumble.

Kitna shotgun, Bennett to his left, now Choice to his right. Draw to Choice for some decent yardage.

McGee shotgun, underneath to a wide open Kevin Oglretree…about 5-6 yards.

McGee under center, Phillips the H-back left side, Lattimore left tackle, no gain, Jerome Carter came up to force the run.

McGee shotgun, four WR’s, sideline completion to Willie Reid for 6-8 yards.

Horn sounds, water break.

Continuation of a different set with 11-on-11:

Offense at the defense 13-yard line.

Romo shotgun, Barber to his left, now in motion right, bad snap hits the ground, Romo scrambles into the end zone.

Romo shotgun, Barber to his right, now in motion right, nice throw to the back shoulder of Martellus Bennett for a touchdown, and there was great coverage from Bradie James.

Romo shotgun, Barber to his right, defensive mixup—do over.

Romo shotgun, from the 9, Barber to his right, Witten H-back right, Romo throws right underneath for Witten, underthrown–might’ve had his arm hit, incomplete pass.

Romo shotgun, from the 8, Barber in slot left side, 3-WR’s, Witten TE right side, delayed draw counter to Barber who didn’t seem to know what was going on…no gain.

Romo shotun from the 8, same formation, Barber now motions back towards the pocket, draw right side, pretty good play. Better communication and timing as well.

Romo shotgun, Barber in motion right side, short pass to the 2 to Witten.

Romo shotgun, they mark it at the 5, Felix Jones 1-Back, Deon Anderson motions offset I, Romo short dump into the end zone for Crayton, Intercepted by Alan Ball.

Romo shotgun, Crayton motion left, Jones to his right, draw play would’ve probably scored from the 5-yard line.

Kitna shotgun from the 12, crossing pattern to Martellus Bennett inside the 2-…not sure if he scored, but he was wide open.

Kitna shotgun from the 10, Jones and Barber in the backfield to his right and left, draw Jones for short yardage up the middle..several defenders there to make the stop.

Kitna shotgun from the 8, Choice 1-Back, Bennett split right, flip into the flat for Choice who is run out after 2-yards.

Kitna shotgun from the 7, Choice to his right, Hurd split wide right, mixup, do over.

Kitna shotgun from the 7, Choice to his right, Hurd wide right, Kitna fires a low bullet for a touchdown to the diving John Phillips. Phillips seems to show up quite a bit battling for third TE position.

Kitna under center from the 5, throws to the back of the end zone for Miles Austin, behind him, Orlando Scandrick with nice coverage, incomplete pass

Kitna shotgun from the 3, Choice behind him, stack of receivers on right side, Kitna underneath to a wide open Sam Hurd for the touchdown.

Kitna shotgun again from the 3, Choice lined up behind him, Hurd motion right side, Kitna doesn’t find anyone open…would’ve been a sack or short gain.

Rudy Carpenter into the game at QB…I’ll be back in a moment.

More 11-on-11 Drills:

Romo shotgun, pressured by Spencer, throws right side for Barber, incomplete pass

Romo shotgun, Felix Jones motion right, deep middle seam for Witten in the end zone, just off his fingertips and Witten rolls up into the stands, he’s okay
Sensabaugh had tight coverage over the top, Bradie James running step for step underneath.

Romo shotgun, Witten motion right, pass over the middle to Bennett, broken up by Keith Brooking.

Romo under center, would’ve been sacked by Steve Octavien, finds Witten for a nice gain right side.

Romo shotgun from the 5, Deon Anderson FB right side, Felix Jones 1-Back, slant left side for Roy Williams—WOW, Orlando Scandrick lit him up, ball popped in the air, intercepted by Alan Ball. Williams helmet was also dislodged.

Best action and contact play of camp to date.

Romo shotgun from the 5, Crayton motion left side, someone moved, Gurode false start? Proctor comes running in to replace him for a play, but Colombo pushed him back. Actually, Leonard Davis might’ve been the culprit.

Romo shotgun from the 5, left side touchdown for Patrick Crayton near the goal line.

Back to the 40, Kitna iso to Felix Jones right guard, nice gain.

Kitna under center from the 25, short slant to Witten for 5-yards.

Kitna from the 20, Phillips motion left, Choice 1-back, flip left nice hole, Patrick Watkins came into the hole, gain of five.

Kitna from the 15, offset I with Choice, bounces outside for a minimal gain, Spears, B. James, Sensabaugh, and Spencer all there.

Kitna shotgun from the 10, draw right side to Choice for 3-4 yards, Ken Hamlin was there, so was Bobby Carpenter who tried to tug the ball out of Choice’s hands.

Kitna shotgun from the 8, Choice motions back to backfield, draw left side, contained by Ware, no gain.

Romo shotgun from the 40, Williams motion right side, Romo throws underneath, no one there, Williams was running a deep seam, incomplete pass.

Romo shotgun from the 40, they re-run the play, this time in slow-motion and Williams stops and catches short pass underneath.

Romo shotgun from the 25, Austin wide right, Williams left, Crayton motion right side, blitz middle, picked-up well, slant for Williams who was open, he dropped it.

Maybe they should run that in slow-motion again.

Man.

Romo shotgun from the 20, pass to the right side for Bennett, batted in the air by Brandon Williams.

Romo under center from the 15, nice run off right guard by Choice for 5-yards.

Romo shotgun from the 10, Choice behind him, Flozell looked to jump early, Romo throws underneath for Hurd, behind him, incomplete pass.

Romo shotgun from the 5, Chioce to his right, Witten motion left, a little middle screen to Choice for a touchdown, nice play. Set up very well.

Backups coming in, I’m taking a break, back in a second.

Looks like practice is wrapping up with stretching exercises.

Pretty good competition today during 11-on-11.

Sometime soon, these guys will get tired of leaning on each other and want to hit someone else.

That won’t happen until the first pre-season game in a week and a half.
