I am sort of watching the game, with the sound off.

I had heard years ago that D. Clark told Drew Pearson at the Pro Bowl after the catch that Montana was actually just throwing the ball away on 3rd down, but he was able to go up and get it.

Have they said anything about anything like that?

Yes, I have read the same thing. The Niners deny it, but throwing the ball away was part of the plan. It was one of those "throw it where only your receiver can catch it or it's incomplete" things. So it was designed into the play, and Montana and Clark said it never worked in practice. Bottom line, they got lucky. But I suppose it's like the old saying "I'd rather be lucky than good".

Have I missed something? Taken 3 rd overall, 5 years into his career and one playoff win...been shutout in a playoff game....

Maybe Dallas can get him this off season. The 49ers have had four running backs on their active roster in Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, Anthony Dixon and LaMichael James. They also have Marcus Lattimore waiting in the wings recovering from his leg injury. They are going to let go of someone next season.
