I'm pretty sure this is common practice in Alaska. I've watched a couple of episodes of that Alaskan State Trooper show or the 1 following the Game Wardens, and they've shown them mentioning "salvaging" meat from the carcass of moose hit on the highway or poached and found abandoned.

i used to live in alaska when i was a kid, & i never saw that.

Probably is common. With the temps there it's just like having it stored in the freezer.

You don't find road kill in Arkansas. Just empty bread sacks and mayo packets...

Lol, so what are they doing now? Throwing people in the slammer if they're caught eating roadkill?

Does there really need to be a law for this?

Damn, why do we have to drag the freakin government into everything?!?!?

This is my feelings as well. It is easy to tell if a deer or any other animal dies from an automobile impact. The meat is usually filled with blood from the bruise caused by the impact. This shouldn't be a government problem or even an issue that they would waste tax payer money addressing. What has happened to common sense?

Road-killed moose now delivered to the door pizza-style

• Alaska Moose Federation purchased Kenai Peninsula trucks dedicated to salvaging moose kill for charities

Prisoners harvest moose killed by trains

Through a partnership with the Alaska Railroad, inmates at the minimum-security correctional facility off Point MacKenzie Road process moose that have been hit by trains along the 68 miles of track between Wasilla and Talkeetna. The burger goes to the Food Bank, where it's placed on a "pick" list that charities around the state can use to select what foods they need to restock their shelves.

Last year, 63 moose died on the tracks between Wasilla and Talkeetna. Alaska state troopers retrieved those moose and, as they do for moose killed on Alaska highways, began calling charities that signed up to harvest the meat. Now the process is a little different, Alaska Railroad spokesman Tim Thompson said.

Yeah, why would the government need to get involved in food? Corporations would never think of getting involved in this type of thing, would they??

Some years ago the place I worked at had a job to enter Deer tags into a computer system for the state shortly after deer season was over.

So we got all of these deer tags from deer season and had to enter various information into the computer system.

There was an amount (very small amount) of people filling out deer season tags for deer that were killed by automobile.

I thought it was kind of funny but I guess if it was a fresh kill and you did not have to worry about sepsis in the system, bone shards in the meat or other things that could happen to the meat due to the auto the accident...the meat should be ok.

I think people reported it on the deer tags because they were worried they might get fined for having a deer but not having a hunting licence.

It just seemed funny seeing all the normal things on the deer tags like Gun Or bow as the weapon to kill the deer and than seeing Car in instead of those two.

Saw a news report of this story. This guy was in a parking lot way late at night and I guess a cop kind of inquired what he was up to. Guy says he hit a deer and was going to take it home to cut it up. Cop asks if he could see it and the thing came back to life. Too great.
