Do Cowboys have any interest in Greg Hardy? Agent says: 'I'm not going to divulge their business'

By David Moore , Staff Writer Contact David Moore on Twitter: @DavidMooreDMN
Drew Rosenhaus is at the NFL Annual meeting trying to drum up interest for Greg Hardy.

But Rosenhaus sidesteps questions about whether or not the Cowboys have shown any interest in his client.

"I have approached the team about Greg after the season but I'm not going to divulge their business,'' Rosenhaus said Monday. "Jerry (Jones) said there hasn't been discussion, so I'm not really saying anything about it.''

Side note, Rosenhaus now represents Manziel too.

I don't think Rosenhaus would want to say anything directly either way. Agents retain plausible deniability when they "leak" a team's interest in their client. Then they can always say, "I don't know how it got out that we were talking to you. Maybe it was one of your guys."

It hurts the working relationship for them to give a direct quote that reveals something the team hasn't.

Almost seems like he is hinting that there have been discussions though they may have been minor.

Why would he even think about saying The Boys have no interest, weakens their position with other possible suitors..

On the flip side he could have said we are reviewing multiple offers, exploring options, etc.

And then there's Greg going back to finish his degree and retiring...

Seems like an agent trying to build suspense and the case that there might be an interested party in the Cowboys which could drum up other interest for his client.

I must admit Drew Rosenhaus is a master manipulator of soundbites.

I don't think that they'd drag it out this long, if they were anticipating signing him.

Our greatest asset this offseason is that 4th overall pick.

Let's say we already signed Hardy or were in discussions in doing so?

That would be a clear indication that we were not going to be going DE (Bosa) with that pick.

OK, so let's say that we restructured Carr and signed Patrick Robinson.

We were looking at Weddle and Leon Hall and decided we were not going to pay that for either of their services, so we let him walk. Is safety that important to us then since we have Byron Jones? I would think not.

That would cool on Ramsey and Hargreaves, other teams could easily think.

Even an Alfred Morris signing would suggest a RB in the later rounds and therefore no Zeke at #4.

But we're looking at all of those prospects and supposedly bargain FA's. Too add to it, really no FA backup QB's, but we just keep bringing this Dak Prescott in who just got nailed with a DUI.

So that leave's the likelihood of Myles Jack or ooooooh, 1 of the 2 QB's.

But Jerry intimates that we're not going QB at #4 and Rosenhaus is saying Jerry said we have not had any discussions regarding Hardy when in all actuality it was Stephen Jones making that statement.

Now, I'm really starting to believe we're waiting for the draft to finalize and then we will sign these FA's who probably already have a wink and shake deal with us, but will be patient to sign the deals so we do not show our hand in a draft that we are looking to get either of those QB's for our future.

So, to sum it all up. I'm starting to believe we will end up with this personnel wise after the draft has finalized:

We draft either Goff or Wentz in round 1
Brandon Carr restructured
Patrick Robinson and/or Leon Hall (who may be converted to safety) signed
Greg Hardy re-signed
Alfred Morris signed, if we don't draft a RB round 2-3 and he's still available.

"i'm not going to divulge that they told me to get lost. that would be, like, bad for business."
