Moose Johnston's comments on the Cowboys needs

Moose didn't mention defense at all but I guess he is focused on his side of the ball. I agree with him about RB. I want the Cowboys to find a RB with real speed. It's not just the 60 yard TDs, it's also getting to the hole quicker, getting outside quicker, and making the defense respect that speed, maybe committing early allowing a play to develop. Then you can utilize someone like Dowdle as the hammer because he runs hard.

I am not sure what Johnston means when he says they need to get more cohesive on the OL. I know what he means by cohesiveness, but how do you "get" it? Is that coaching? Maybe it is the attention to detail we talk about that was lacking in Dallas.

The OL is a bit of a puzzle. What do they do? Do they give up on Guyton after 1 year. I don't think they can. What about Steele and his huge contract (more evidence Jerry is stupid). We hope Guyton and Beebe only improve in the offseason. I think they have enough on the OL to take a chance with it going into the 2025 season. Steele improve that latter part of 2024, maybe he shows more improvement in 2025. Again, I know he is expensive but they have a much greater need on the DL. Maybe keep Steele one more year, work with Guyton to get stronger, and then let Hoffman, Bass and Richards compete for the LG spot. I think the Cowboys need a 2 or 3 year plan so there is no reason to try to fix everything in 1 year. 2025 has to be about rebuilding the D and finding a RB.
At OL, I think the best move is Tyler Smith at LT, Guyton and Steele compete at RT, with Richards as swing if he doesn't win a starting gig at G. Hoffman, Beebe, Richards, Bass, rookie competing at IOL, whatever combination proves to be most effective. The line came together towards the end of the season and the running game started to get going. There's something to build on. Just a matter of finding the right combination that fits the new scheme.

Tyler Smith would be a penalty machine at LT.

The Dallas Cowboys over the last 30 years can't seem to fathom how to cut their losses. Tyron Smith was a great pick. Played a lot of years for the Cowboys sealing off the LT spot. But the Cowboys also waited to long to replace him. They kept kicking that can down the road and kept dealing with his availability or lack of availability by trying to patch things. There are a few positions like this you see even on the defensive side where guys are getting old and instead of getting rid of them and moving on they hold on to them until the bitter end and the team as a whole suffers because those guys are never available when needed.
Corect , they hang on to the players too long , even though it seems to be bad, they should take a lead from Bellicheck Pats day and start preparing replacements and trade or cut senior players to continue to bring younger faster and tougher players who will compete , no body should be complacent.

Thats is the only way to have a tough team to win in the playoffs .

Exactly. The only way to get ahead in the NFL is to never holding the depreciating asset when age and injuries mount. If you can trade them for value do it. if you can't then don't compound the problem with additional contract years that saddles you with an injury prone player who has issues with availability.

Draft defense. Go get a RB in free agency, you can find decent RB's in free agency or draft one in the 4th round.
100% agree. We just saw what a strong defense can do. We got to beef up our trenches and run defense with LBers. A RB can only do so much if there isn’t a lot of run blocking in front of him. I’m hoping we draft offensive and defensive lines in this draft.

I can't ignore the o-line. I draft a DT round one and the best OL at any position round two. Egals found Dickerson and Jurgens in the second round. Maybe we can find that type of an upgrade. I don't want to hope someone pans out--I want someone I know has a great chance to pan out. If we are rolling with non-mobile Dak, we can't afford to not look at constantly upgrading the o-line.
Egals also got their starting LT Mailata in the 7th round.

Over the last 15 years we basically have to take OL in the first rd in order to find a quality starter. I can’t emphasize it enough, Jerry and Stephen suck.

Such garbage

3rd rd McGovern was starting in the Title Game w Bills

4th rd from Wisconsin was starting in Title Game w Washington

This is why I defend Jones. I am one who will never let falsehoods fly

2nd rounder from 2018 also got a second contract. In fact, just about every player from that draft got a second contract. 2018 was an underrated draft

Primarily because we suck at drafting on the defensive line. Not sure how we can be that bad at it but there it is. Also we are not winning anything so long as they don't fix the defense starting with the line and the LB's.
DC should never draft d-line from Michigan.....EVER!

Philly winning the SB is when you realized this. "You can't win a butt kicking contest without butt kickers." Tried to relay that message to JJ since about 2014!

I think some guys are just more injury prone, no matter what routine they are on.
Lee and Smith were great players but I just don't think they had the durability genetics update when they were conceived lol
Unfortunately sounds like Overshown has that same luck…….

Last 10 years we only have 2 wildcard wins. FO is a massive failure from HC hires, culture, drafting, free agency and cap management.

McGovern and Biadiaz had the same issues we complained about while they was here. Big DT's push them around, especially Biadiaz. Did you watch the playoffs? Connor Williams quit football in November. He's not helping anyone.

No I realized it years ago, I’m hoping JJ and Air Quotes can realize it.

Use the draft on O-line and defense. 4 picks minimal to the D. Use FA to get a veteran RB1 and a WR2.

I've been saying this, using our #1 pick on a DT. One will be there. Best o-lineman for #2. BPA for defense with 3rd pick. Trade Trey Lance back to someone for a 4th, lol. Find RB and WR through FA.
