Make a contribution if it makes you feel better. Just be sure you don't give it blindly. There are some excellent choices already named.

Why don't look up a local group that is sending doctors or some sort of medical aid or relief.

Most are small and anything you could afford to give would be greatly appreciated and put to good use.

First, I don't think your employer should be asking people to give what they can.

You have to be living under a rock to not know what is going on in Haiti and each individual should be prompted by their own compassion to donate.

I would have been extremely irritated if the leadership in my company would have called a meeting to inform us to give what we can.

Anyway, as others have said, the best bet seems to be the Red Cross and even the donation link on the The White House Website points to the Red Cross.

And like I said earlier, I hope the United States Government will reimburse the cities in Florida where the Haitians will go because just like the City I work for, Municipal Budgets are extremely tight.

Yeah, for many years I worked at a place (in the U.S.) that annually asked all its employees to give to a specific charity that was chosen by the employer. The employer distributed donation cards. A week later, office assistants were responsible for collecting all donation cards and donations, which were returned to the central office. If you didn't donate, you were supposed to return your donation card anyway, with a $0 written on the card, along with your name.

I do give to charities, but never gave to one at work. I never returned the donation cards. I also never complained to my employer about it ... but I probably should have, because I really did resent the whole approach.

Americans Pledge Millions, but Cash Flow Takes Weeks

Thousands of Americans have pledged $9 million to Haitian relief agencies this week by punching a code and sending a text on their cellphones. But it could be weeks, if not months, before any of that money actually can be used.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, CNN, and users of Twitter Inc. have urged people to punch 90999 and then type in the word "HAITI" on their phones to send $10 to the American Red Cross. But the money won't be routed from most U.S. wireless carriers to relief efforts until cellphone users pay their phone bills.

I read yesterday that they are working on ways to better expedite this money. Obviously, it needs to be there asap.
