More brotherhood amongst Cowboys

Cowboys need less business and more brotherhood on their team. I'm not saying that they don't have any, I just don't think there is enough. I remember a few games last year where cheapshots were taken and scuffles flared up, but don't remember seeing the other Cowboys players standing up for a wronged team mate. More like just standing there watching. I'm not saying everygame the Cowboys should break out in a bench clearing brawl, but I think if they were melded more there is no way one player would let another get cheapshot or whatever without the entire offense or defense getting up into the mix if need be. Anyone else feel this way? Brotherhood is what makes teams try that much harder for each other and that makes all the difference in the world.

The problem with the NFL today, in terms of brotherhood, is that it IS a business, and the league demands that its players are professional. I wont disagree that the Cowboys have a lot of softer guys, but a lot of that is a byproduct of the league itself.

I see where you are coming from OP, but I truly do believe we will see more of that this upcoming season relative to past years. I feel like this team is fed up with the "soft" talk and are looking to come out with a new mentality this year.

The problem with responding to a cheap shot with a cheap shot is that I don't think the refs would call the cheap shot on the other team, but I think they would flag the Cowboys' cheap shot.

Unless you mean the Cowboys giving the cheap shot player a hard, clean hit or tackle later on in the game. In that case yes.

This is the way it supposed to be done. I am sure this is the way everyone is instructed in how to "retaliate" from peewee on up to the pros. Target the offending player every chance you get, but between the whistles.

It's all about culture. Look at the Ravens leadership and Niners leadership then compare it to ours.

Brotherhood is one of the strengths of this current roster.

I'd agree that there's not a lot of nastiness right now. Part of that, I think, is Garrett placing such an emphasis on not doing anything stupid. Part of it is just the personalities we've got on the team. The rest is the fact that we're lacking swagger right now because we haven't got a track record for winning tough games against the best teams.

I know you guys can watch on TV and think you know what kind of culture this team has, but it's simply impossible. We see this team 1/7 of a week. Most of the brotherhood is going to be formed in the weekdays, in the facilities and on the practice field.

Really only the coaches and players can attest to the brotherhood of this team.

Dez has attested to this many times. He says the team needs do more to bond.

10-15 years from now do you see any players on this team shedding tears for their teammates the way Emmitt did for Moose during his HOF speech? Or the way Troy and Staubach did at their retirement press conferences. There is some missing with this bunch. I don't sense the same emotional attachment that past players had for this franchise and their teammates.

Never bought into the whole brotherhood thing, guys don't have to like each other to win.

Look at how the dynasty was built - Aikman, Novacek, Moose vs Irvin, Deion, Leon Lett, etc. The only common denominator your team needs is talent.

Talent wins football games, bottom line.

Well, what I want to see is a physical football team that gives back when it's needed, I'm sure on the field, the defense does not like the offense and vice-a-versa. And the kicker only has two or three friends...poor guys..

Even Coaches punch each other sometimes! Do you really think that Dan Bailey hangs out with Tony Romo on their off days? Sure...

But as a team, I hope they know what it is to represent the Star and cheap shots are not our game because we will have already got you beat. Play fair, but, play mean.

Johnston: "Chemistry and Camaraderie" Made The '92 Cowboys

“We had really, really good players,” Johnston said, per ESPN Dallas, “and in ’92 a lot of those guys were year four to six, kind of right in your prime.”

However, Johnston continued to say that it wasn’t necessarily the talent that set those teams apart.

“To me, what made the team unique was the chemistry and camaraderie,” he said. “A lot of people talk about the football team being your second family and you create a lot of analogies like that, but it’s really hard to actually create that feeling, that chemistry in the locker room. Jimmy and his staff did a really good job with that. …

“I just think that when we got into tough times, we knew each other so well, we had each other’s backs. We had a tremendous amount of respect for each other. It’s hard to create that. I think that if you were to go back and talk to players from the 49ers from the ‘80s, Steelers from the ‘70s, Packers from the ‘60s, you’ll find a lot of the same things that we talk about with our ’92 team.”

There's also a recent Moose interview with Babe where he talks about the team being super close even when they were losing in 89, 90. Maybe @theebs can help me find it.

The fact is those teams were very talented but they also had a bond that this current bunch is missing and has been missing for a long time. You can blame free agency for that but then you have to explain how teams like the niners, ravens, seahawks, giants can have it.

Nobody was talking about the Niners' "leadership" during the decade where they were awful.

I thought when Golden Tate decked Sean Lee last year it was close to a cheap shot. But when he stood over him dancing and no one did anything, I was really disapointed.

I agree with this.. plus we have gotten rid of several soft players recently. Sensablo, Felix, Ogletree, etc. That is real good for out team. Hopefully some of the new guys are more charged up and hungry to win. Getting the right mix of players goes a long way.

But Romo's the QB so we don't have a chance right?
