More excited about this draft than the last few

I have to say that the last few years I was not too excited about the draft early on and as it got close I got a little more excited but not like I had in previous years.

This year however I have really gotten back to my old form about being excited about the draft from both a distance away from it and now as it nears prospective.

Really think that if we, or should I say the Cowboys, play the cards right, this team can come out of this draft with some really good players that can really help get this team over it's .500 slump.

I think, or hope, that this draft lines up with what is also need areas for us and hopefully we can get a BPA that also fits a need in our first few picks.

I hope we can come away with a good Olinemen (OG/OC), a DT, S, RB and WR or other positions that happen to fall to us.

There are certain players that I hope fall to us (say warmack, cooper or richardson) fall to us in the first but also have other players that I would be ok with if those three do not (Austin or Vaccaro).

There are other players I hope fall to us in the other rounds as well.

Just been more hopeful and excited about this draft than I have been in a few years.

Now I have to also even that out and hope that even if we do not get the players I personally want...I hope that we get good players that will contribute to this team.

What I hope does NOT happen is that this front office gets caught with little to no good players in their slots and can not trade down.

Or

That this team gets too trade happy and cute and it winds up biting us in the backside (think Special Teams trade down draft).

Or that we start overrating too many players by drafting for need only (think QC/Dixon Draft or the Three Gloves draft).

I think we need a good draft or we are going to be hurting more for years. Some of these past drafts have hurt us enough and we don't need to screw it up.

Ok...got that off my chest.

:D

Agree with you! I was not excited at all about this draft until about a month ago. But because of the depth in the rounds 2 and 3, I'm starting to really like it.

The thing I like about this draft is the unpredictability. That should make for a pretty fun first round.

The Boys have a chance to get 3 starters out of this draft, IMO.

I think we could get three starters as well. But even if we get some players that are not "starters" I think we can get some players that contribute a good deal (rotation on the D line for example).

I agree, it will be just interesting to see in what order they address their needs?

WR and RB seem to be mid round picks but I wouldn't be shocked if they address it earlier versus later. I rather myself address the trenches first but we will see, either way this draft is deep in our need areas.

This draft will be very exciting. I don't see us coming away with 3 starters for 2013. Seems the Cowboys just don't do that. I think the only positions that we will draft that will start are safety and Guard.

I think they are happy with what they have a DL and a 2nd or 3rd rounder is not going to start.

RB will not start over Murray unless of course Murray is injured.

Unless they trade up and draft a tackle, we are set with Smith and Parnell.

Not saying there isn't 3 players would couldn't start, just don't think the Cowboys have faith in 3 rookies starting.

I agree. I think, given the talent available, that there is a strong possibility that three rookies can emerge from camp as starters. I'm a definitely excited!

I hope they are not happy with their line and are looking to upgrade at least one of the DT positions. They need at least one young stud to set the pace while the grandpas (Ratliff and Hatcher) follow.

I hope your optimism is justified. It seems, despite our mediocre record, that JG-led drafts are showing improvement over past years. Hopefully, this year continues the trend.

With Jerry as the Warden and Stephen as the head guard? :laugh2:

I love this draft class for the Cowboys. It's not flashy, but it's deep and strong, exactly what the Cowboys need. Honestly, I hope we find a way to collect more picks in the second/third rounds.

I really do too. Like BrainPaint, I am a little more excited about this draft than the past few for some reason. I guess maybe because there are so many guys in the first 3 rounds that could come in, start right away and help the team get over the hump.

Jerry would not punish me for asking if he is obtuse...so I guess I have that going for me, which is nice. (bill murray voice from caddy shack)

I don't know man... he might throw you to the sodomites (Commanders).

You could get out of it though by doing Stephen's taxes.

I think BP is excited that we may draft Tavon Austin.

As much as I love Tavon...If one of the Two OGs is there we need to take them (Cooper fits best). If one of the big three OTs drop we should take them. If a DT like Richardson is there...we should take him. If Vaccaro is there the team probably should take him.

I agree with all that too... but I wouldn't be upset if we drafted Austin if all those others are gone. He is dynamite with the football.

I can't call this an exciting draft by any means. Nor am I particularly looking forward to it. It just screams of boredom. There is no real consensus in the top players. Nor is there much separation in talent from the top of the round to the end of the round in my opinion. I would hate to be drafting in the top 10 this year. I don't think KC got one serious call to trade the top pick.

An OT from Central Michigan who hardly anyone saw play might be the top pick. Not much excitement there. He might be great. Who knows? Probably just as few or fewer people saw Demarcus Ware play in college.

Although, I am pretty sure jersey sales from this rookie class will be the lowest ever.
