My daughter Xana was in her final high school talent show, she'll graduate in June. This year she did
"Mi chiamano Mimì." I thought it was head and shoulders better than anything else she's done, and I'm very proud of her. Unfortunately the judges didn't think she was worthy of a top 3 finish, as she didn't even place.

Congrats! Very talented.

Congrats, JD. A proud father, as you should be, friend.

Excellent.

What type of acts finished ahead of her?
Was opera music frowned upon or something?

Anyway, well done Xana!
Congrats JD.

Whats next after high school?

Thanks for the kind words everybody. The girl who won song a broadway style song. It's actually the same song she did a few weeks ago in Shrek the Musical that the school performed. She's really good, IMO she was second best behind my daughter.

They don't have anything against opera per se, the judges are 4 teachers and the superintendent. I guess they just didn't have ears think she was that good.

Not sure what's next as far as performing, she doesn't take singing terribly seriously - it's not on the radar as a potential profession at this point. She was leaning towards criminal justice, but her voice coach has been really pushing her to study opera or some type of vocals at college. She really likes to sing on stage, so we'll see. The issue is that she really only wants to sing opera, she's really good at belting (broadway style singing) - at least according to her voice coach. She has absolutely no interest in that though, and at one point gave up singing lessons because he kept pushing her to belt.

She did do a duet with a boy from the school in the talent show though, and that wasn't operatic. She still kind of sounds like she's singing an opera, but the song is apparently from a show. My wife recorded that (luckily, since I screwed it up) and I'll probably get the poor shaky footage of it from her and post that as well.

Sue the piano player for using an out of tune upright. I half expected " Roll out the Barrel" as she exited stage left. Sheesh. Your baby girl was awesome. She deserves a better ensemble.

My daughter also did a duet with a boy from school. He doesn't sing opera so they did something from a play. I took me a long time to post it because I didn't have video, and youtube won't let you post audio only, so I had to get some pictures from a friend of hers and make it into a slideshow.

Xana hated it, she said she's never singing 'pop' again. It's pretty much the least pop song I've heard, but what do I know?

My daughter played a piano concert tonight. I know how you feel, brother.

Thats great culture to have your daughter exposed to.

Wish more parents would expose there children to the fine arts
