More Mediocrity Ahead

Jerry Jones, the NFL's only owner/general manager, won't even consider changing the structure of the Dallas Cowboys' front office, despite the fact that disappointing seasons have been the norm since the franchise's mid-1990s dynasty died. "The facts are that I've spent 22 years doing this exactly the same way," Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM. "I've made a lot of changes from year to year as time goes along, but frankly, I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don't have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions, period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that's me."

Jones dismissed the idea of hiring a general manager from outside the organization, such as Bill Polian after the Indianapolis Colts fired the architect of their Super Bowl team. Jones emphasized that he uses information from many different sources to make football decisions.

In Jones' mind, adding a general manager to the payroll would clutter the decision-making process, not improve it.
"The thing you've got to realize is that when you have an owner that is full-time as the owner, then you create a situation where you have as much turnover at GM as you do at the coaching level," Jones said. "And I think that just deters from the mix."
The Cowboys have had six coaches, one general manager and one playoff win in the last 15 seasons.
The Cowboys just completed an 8-8 season in which they beat only one team that finished .500 or better. But Jones believes his team was talented enough to make a playoff run, and he's pleased with the coaching.
"More often than not, when you're in the kind of shape we are statistically, you're doing better in the playoffs," Jones said.

Jerry is not stepping down as GM.

This really isn't news. This is what several people have been pointing out for y ears now. He's not going to change so I'm not sure why anyone continues to hold out hope that he will.

I don't get why people need to keep reposting this as if it is news? :laugh2:

Bottom line Jerry is the GM and will continue. As for more mediocrity ahead? I think if he continues to listen to Tom Ciskowski and work with Garrett on areas that need to be addressed I think we can win. If Jerry starts free lancing then yeah there could be problems

Starts free lancing??? He's been doing that since he bought team. Only Jimmy, and to some degree, Tuna, kept him in check. Let's hope Garrett finds some way to to step outside the strings of the puppet.

I don't think Garrett is a puppet and I think we have some good young player we have brought in and look forward to getting more guys who can come in and fill some needed areas.

Look you want to cry and pout over the team be my guest I'm not joing your pity party.

Sixteen years of Jone's free lance parties is better??? BTW, I'm not into the pity parties. After the latest collapse, a drug induced coma party would be a better experience. You keep up the hope though.

Keep up the pity. :laugh2:

When the team does things I disagree with such as TO, PacMan and some other moves I say so. When we go out and get quality players I say so as well. As Jimmy Johnson said Jerry does not meddle as much as people think, however it is important that Jerry listen to those like Ireland when he was here and in Tom Ciskowski who is currently running the scouting department as well as listening to what the coach is asking for.

I don't get why some people can't take a moment to look at the forum and realise there are already multiple threads on this exact same topic and simply can't post their opinion and thoughts in one of those instead of making a whole new thread on it.

I guess we're just as guilty though for posting in them in response instead of ignoring them for one of the 40 others on this topic.

Fair enough. On the pity parties, I have no time. I run a dairy farm, and with the new time given to me with our latest collapse, I need to get my snowmobiles ready.

I have asked this many times. I guess they feel if you create 100 more of these threads that Jerry will step down. :laugh2:

Jerry is not going to and when Jerry does I expect that Stephen will take over.

Being a long time Cowboy fan I know for a fact Tex was not a drafting guru he was a promoter that was his role with the Rams and he continued that with the Cowboys. When it came to drafts Tex listened to Gil Brandt and Tom Landry. So people acting like the GM situation was vastly different is not totally true and those teams won and won a lot.

Key is for Jerry to listen to those he has hired

I can't and won't speak in absolutes regarding how our team will perform as long as Jerry is GM( and even when he steps down)

We can win the Super Bowl we could go 2-14.

These threads are old hat. And tiresome. To heap all the blame on Jerry is moronic and shows exactly what kind of fan you are. Not very informed. I will not pretend to know the comings and going of Valley Ranch; or what will be done and won't be done in the coming months ahead because I am merely a fan who relys on news. And even then I try and make an educated guess on said news because news is and always will be twisted to fit certain agendas.

I do not care to get sucked into being brainwashed or told how to cheer and root for my Cowboys via the media or fans in general. I do believe we have the right coach. I do believe with a complete and full offseason scheduled, we will be right back where we need to be and heading up.

Those who want vendication for this and that can sit and spin for all I care! I know I will enjoy this offseason. GO COWBOYS!!! :star:
