(12:01 AM):Buckeye OT on drunken rampage… Its not really out of the ‘How to Impress NFL Teams Less Than Three Months Before the Draft,‘ but Ohio State OT Alex Boone was arrested after being subdued with a taser during an alleged drunken tirade in California. Boone was taken into custody late Sunday for investigation of resisting arrest after Orange County sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance call. When they arrived, the 6-8, 312-pound Boone was seen jumping on car hoods, yanking on a tow truck cable and trying to break a window. Boone then fled the scene and ultimately had to be tasered to be subdued. Boone, a first-team Big Ten this year, had been considered to be a potential mid-round pick at the 2009 draft.
Put me in coach… Georgia junior QB Matthew Stafford, expected to be the first QB chosen at the 2009 draft, has pretty much dispelled any doubts that he would not want to be selected by Detroit. He might not be the top choice of a lot of Lions fans, but Stafford likes the sound of that, especially when it also comes with the No 1 pick in the NFL draft tag. Appearing on ESPN Radio ate last week, Stafford indicated that he would much prefer to be taken first overall than going to a somewhat better team in a warmer city with a lower pick. Stafford was quoted as saying that he would “definitely love to be able to associate that with my name and maybe turn that franchise around.” Stafford indicated, though, that so far the Lions haven’t given him any indication they’re going to take him with the first pick in this year’s draft.
‘Noles wideout gets the boot…
Florida State junior receiver Preston Parker has been kicked off the team after he was arrested Saturday morning and charged with DUI. This was the third time Parker had been arrested after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of possession of a fireman and marijuana last spring, while in 2006 he was charged, but never prosecuted for a petty theft. Parker had appeared to be an emerging draft prospect in 2007 when he had 62 receptions for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore, but slipped to just 40 catches last fall when he averaged less than 10 yards per carry.
