No idea why we don't utilize the slant more, it makes Dez have to beat his guy quick(which he will), mitigates the effect of bracket coverage, lets Dez do his thing after the catch. Hell even miles has taken a quick slant or two to the house. Can't see why we don't utilize it more.

At the risk of starting a shate storm, Romo is sketchy on slant routes. Sometimes it hits their hands. Sometimes it bounces off their back foot and into the arms of the defender.

Cue the stat machines with their yardage responses that prove nothing.

Well anyway you cut it, Dez looked good running crossing routes and underneath routes. They moved him into the slot and he was able to do is thing. It only took 15 weeks to do this. Mind-blowing, I know.

I have asked this very question a hundred times.

Many have been calling for Dez to be used more creatively to beat the given coverage he is facing but were told we had to apply as OCs first?

What gets me is remembering the articles in training camp about Dez perfecting the crossing route Rice used to run. How Dez was learning to set the defender up for an outside move and then break inside.

He is a perfect guy for this with his speed, the ability to snatch the ball out of the air and how touch he is to bring down.

So where the hell did that play go this season?

I don't know about cuing the stats guys. Most of those guys have a good bead on what's going on, *because* they know how to interpret the data. I agree with you, anyway, that Romo's not particularly gifted at throwing the slants. He's got a tendency to leave them behind the receiver, slightly, and it gets him in trouble now and then. Not unlike the issues he used to have with back-shoulder throws until he worked on them.

But with Dez and Miles and Beasley, and with the success teams like DEN have with the pick/slant routs, I agree, we should be running more of these plays right now.

This. I noticed it when TO was here. It might be just happening with the faster wr's but I could be wrong.

Not sure. It might be that he's aiming the ball more, when he's throwing into that much traffic. The balls are usually catchable, but they're sometimes not in stride or, like last week, they're catchable by more than just our receiver.

That said...which game was it where Tony double-clutched the ball on the slant to Dez and waited for the LB to clear? NY or OAK, maybe? It was a beautiful play. And Dez and Miles both can do major damage after the catch if you hit them in stride properly. Denver kills teams with it, especially off of the picks they run. I'm surprised the whole league isn't doing it like crazy this year, honestly.

How can anyone say Romo can't throw slants when we got no passing routes that employ them.. we like to have our WR arsenal run all day along the sideline...

We don't run a lot of them, but we run some. And we probably don't run more because it's not a route he particularly likes. :)
