Associated Press
The Cleveland Browns are reportedly interested in taking USC quarterback Mark Sanchez with their first pick in the NFL draft. The front office and coaching staff of the Cleveland Browns aren't saying much, but multiple rumors continue to circulate about who the Browns might trade and what they are looking for in the draft.
If Cleveland is looking to draft USC quarterback Mark Sanchez or Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, that likely means Browns' receiver Braylon Edwards or one of the team's quarterbacks, Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson, are on the trading block.
The website FanHouse.com writes about this report from Cleveland's WOIO Channel 19, which cites the Browns' interest in Sanchez and Crabtree:
Sources have told 19 Action News the Browns will either take USC quarterback Mark Sanchez or Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree. The Browns have the fifth pick in next week's NFL Draft.
FanHouse adds:
It's worth pointing out that the National Football Post's Mike Lombardi has been beating this drum for a month now. Whatever, it's potentially more evidence that new general manager George Kokinis and new head coach Eric Mangini don't think either Quinn or Edwards can help the Browns back to respectability -- even though Edwards had 80 receptions for almost 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns during the '07 season.
We'll see how the speculation plays out next Saturday, the first of the two-day NFL draft.
