HP is still going to discontinue them, but are going to produce another limited run.

preciate the link NYC. I am still tryin to get a few more of these things. The other thread fell off, but I managed to get one at a local Best Buy after my Amazon order was canceled. I can say tho that it has exceeded my expectations. Overclocked it to 1.5 ghz, installed preware for free apps and installed some patches to speed it up a lil bit. Honestly, other than not being able to view Microsoft office suite documents, I havent run into anything this thing can't do. Sat on the porch last weekend drinking beers streaming the Boys game. To anyone trying to decide if they want one, I recommend it. Esp if you ware able to get one at 99$ when they are available again.

Here's Everything We Know About Amazon's Secret Tablet So Far

1. It's all but confirmed that it will run on the Android operating system.

++++++++++++++++++++

I have a Kindle DX and like it for reading, esp new authors which I've loaded up on lately(hint: Killer By Stephen Carpenter and Run, Blake Crouch) but would like more from a tablet.

Hard to comment on something you don't know much about. I have the latest Kindle. As a book reader, I find it far superior to everything else. (including physical books) It just doesn't read magazines or other things that require advanced formatting and images.

It sounds like Amazon is going to replace the Kindle with it. Can't say I 100% approve of this. It's some much easier to read e-ink than a back lit display over long periods of time.

I'm trying to find some. Where can I get one. Everyone says sold out. I'm ready to buy a few.

I think right now the only option for the 99$/149$ is to wait for HP to announce they will have more in stock, which judging by the op will be in about 2-3 weeks. They were allowing ppl to sign up for a mailing list to be notified but think the have stopped. So you will have to keep a close watch if that's what you try to do, need to be one of the first to have a chance. Also, I heard that they will limit to 1 per person so might need a few cards on hand. As far as I know, no retailers will be getting more inventory. Only other options are CL/Ebay. I think Ebay has been selling the 16gb from like 230-250 so it might be better to wait on HP, even if you are unable to get one, there will be more out there and the secondary market price should drop significantly.

Cool, i'll keep that in mind. BTW, if anyone gets one after they release them and wants 200, I'll pay for one or even two.

Neither do I, my wife found them and told me. So I asked what it was before googling. This is from Archos though..and it's too small.

I have the Archos 5 Internet Tablet, the thing is awesome. Its bigger than that but smaller than a Touchpad. Has a 4.8 inch screen, but he one i have has a 500 gb harddrive so its thicker than the smaller ones. Runs android, plays 720p video and was only about 250. I know its prob not what youre looking for tho.

Hewlett-Packard's TouchPad back for 'one last run' after company announces U-turn
By Stephen Hull

Computer giant Hewlett Packard has announced a dramatic U-turn for plans to kill off its TouchPad by giving the failing device ‘one last run’ at success.

After slashing the price of the tablet from $499 to $99, U.S. sales dramatically, and possibly unsurprisingly, went into a frenzy as bargain-hunters chased a deal.

‘The speed at which it disappeared from inventory has been stunning. We have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand,’ an HP spokesman said.

Only this month the computer giant said it was pulling out of the tablet and mobile phone market after poor sales of its products and stiff competition from rivals Apple and Google.

The change in strategy is being made despite claims HP may lose money on every TouchPad in its final production run as the 32GB version takes at least $318 to produce.

Critics have hit out at HP for wavering on the big decisions, such as its original stated intention to integrate its webOS software into every device it makes.

The company is struggling as smartphones and tablets eat away at its core PC business, the world's largest.

CEO Leo Apotheker is now under immense pressure from investors unhappy with HP's back-and-forth on strategy.

In a desperate bid to regain market share, last year HP snapped up Palm, a struggling wireless pioneer for $1.8 billion.

I really wish they had a 7in touch pad that had phone capabilities so I dont have to carry multiple devices around with me.

I dont want to spend that much on a tablet now that I have apple computers and an i-phone. I see no need.

I know the first Samsung Galaxy Tab had phone capabilities in foreign countries, but when it came to the U.S. that function was stripped.
