An idea. Expand the regular season to 18 weeks by giving each team 2 bye weekends separated by at least 4 weeks. No more games, just more games watched on network TV. More rest and recuperation for players. Better football.

I've often thought the same. Plus eliminate THU games aside from Thanksgiving.

There was a time when the league had two byes per team. Don't recall why they went away from it, but I do remember hating to have two weekends where my team wasn't playing.
To add, why would networks pay more...the field would just be watered down somewhat each week. The marquee tams would still only play 16 games.

Thursday games aren't going anywhere. Networks pay big for prime time games.

Eliminate Thursday night games, and eliminate the bye week.
Keep the 3rd game on thanksgiving though.
Bring back Saturday games the last 2 weeks of the season.

If not eliminate the bye weeks, which I know won't happen, but I said it at top of post, as I never really liked them.
Then even it more out, some weeks were 2 teams, some were 6 teams. Keep it at 2 or 4 teams.
This 6 team crap sometimes makes for some boring games, other than the Cowboys of course.

The thanksgiving day games, a road team that has the home game, plays at noon, the visiting team the same if on the road, late game if at home.
To equal out the travel time. Also the team at home should not get a home game before the thanksgiving game.

However to make up for this years blunder, next year we should get a home game prior to it. :)

This.
As an aside, didn't we have a home game prior to Thanksgiving last year?

I think it's a viable idea and one that the NFL would consider because one of the big things on their agenda is to somehow get the Super Bowl on President's Day weekend. Studies have shown absenteeism at work costs companies millions on the Monday after the Super Bowl and the NFL could market the entire weekend.
