This is my take.

We have seen this team move down, move down and then back up, and jump around in the middle of the first round. In most cases the results have been lukewarm.

We stayed put last year and took the best player for the pick at 9. I'd suggest there aren't many fans here that would argue with Tyron at 9. He is a sure all-pro and if he has health, he will be a HOF some day.

This year we moved up. But we got one of the arguably best defensive players for any position and one of need. Sure we gave up a second. But trading down out of 14 to get an extra second would have given us what?

Not a top flight corner that the talking heads rave about. One that is considered one of the best over the last few years comparable to Peterson.

It's all a crap shoot. But like Tyron, this kid is special and has shown it.

This is what drafting is about.

Not taking special team players and back-ups as we have seen with these guys before.

I am pumped.

Claiborne has better ball skills than Peterson... So trading up for him was a great move in my opinion. In a pass happy NFL either you better have a dominant pass rush or elite secondary. I think Dallas has a great mix of both.

Me too. Like somebody said earlier we were better than 25 other teams last year at getting to the QB yet were ranked 25th in opposing QB rating.

This off season fixes that.

Teams are built around play makers.

I think we just added one tonight.

I think you are right. I was watching the war room on dc.com and when I seen them on the phone that early I had a good feeling that we were going to add an elite player.

Agreed.

The team had the chance to add the second rated player on their board with a below retail trade and jumped on the opportunity.

Of course hindsight will be 20/20 but given his status as the best defensive player prospect in this draft and our defensive backfield was horrendous last year, I think I am quite ok with the selection.

This is a huge upgrade to the secondary. Hopefully this adds that little amount of time Ware/Ratliff/Spencer need to get to the QB. Too many times last year, Ware was half a step away from a sack.

No doubt that playmakers are very important, but games are won and lost in the trenches. I can live with our DL. The OL scares the crap out of me. I don't think this was necessarily a bad move since we got:

-The #2 rated player on our board
-The top defensive player in the draft
-A guy who plays a premium position

All that for a 2nd round pick is not a bad move. However, I was hoping that we would use our 1st or 2nd on an offensive lineman. Now we no longer have a 2nd and many of the players we would've been looking at will be gone. Hopefully we can get Blake or someone with the potential to step in right away at center (or OG and we can kick someone like Bernadeaux inside if necessary). At least we didn't appear to overpay and got a top player. This wasn't a reach. I just don't like trading away 2nd rounders.

A great start but we still need safety help.
