Kiper and McShay have Taylor Mays falling out of their latest first round too (as does Don Banks)

Interesting comments regarding our pick from Mosley:

By Matt MosleyIn case you missed it Saturday afternoon on ESPN Radio, Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay delivered a rapid-fire mock draft in which McShay selected the odd number picks and Kiper took care of the evens. This exercise is a lot closer to what teams will be doing in draft sessions next week.

Forced to make picks in a matter of seconds, Kiper and McShay produced a fairly intriguing first round. Let's take a look at what happened in the NFC East:

4. Washington Commanders -- LT Russell Okung, Oklahoma State: Not a big surprise here. Most mock drafters should nail the first four picks.

15. New York Giants -- DT Dan Williams, Tennessee: The Broncos took linebacker Rolando McClain at No. 11 in McShay and Kiper's rapid-fire mock. And the Giants passed up the best cornerback in the draft in Joe Haden. But Williams actually provides great value at 15. Tremendous player against the run and also has a nice bull-rush. Rocky Bernard was awful last season and Chris Canty couldn't get on the field. It's the right pick -- if Williams is there.

24. Philadelphia Eagles -- C/G Maurkice Pouncey, Florida: Kiper sounded a little flustered about taking Pouncey here, but he likes the value. Pouncey is the best center in the draft. The only downside is that players such as Dan Williams can move him off the ball at times. The Eagles could have taken Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon or USC safety Taylor Mays. But Mays inexplicably falls out of the first round in this mock draft.

27. Dallas Cowboys -- OT Charles Brown, USC: I think Brown's a definite possibility at this spot, but the Cowboys will be hoping that a team behind them wants to trade up for Brown or Mays. But if Dez Bryant slides all the way to No. 25 -- as Kiper suggested -- Jerry Jones will be tempted to go after him. And I wouldn't blame. Bryant's by far the best wide receiver in the draft. To have a shot at him in the 20s is too much to pass up. I realize there are character concerns related to his '09 suspension, but the Cowboys have shown a lot of interest in Bryant throughout the scouting process. If Bryant goes into free-fall mode, look for Jones to offer him a lifeline. Kiper says the Ravens will take him at No. 25. But that might be wishful thinking for a Ravens season-ticket holder.

I wouldn't be too upset if Brown's the guy, but I'd be surprised if he's the pick. I'm betting on corner: Wilson, Jackson or McCourty.

Scratch McCourty and Jackson. Wilson is the only CB I covet at #27.

Iutapi and Brown are nice picks but if Davis falls or Pouncey is available they are better choices.

Everything I've read talks about how the Cowboys like Free at LT, so would we actually draft a tackle in the 1st?

Unlikely unless the value fits.

I like Roger Saffold in this area because he can play tackle or guard, IMO.

It will suck if our 1st pick is offensive tackle.

Not if that guy went on to become a probowl calibar player or a 10 yr starter...especially at the 27th spot

Best case scenario for us is Free is the longterm answer at LT, but regardless Colombo is NOT a long term answer at RT, and might be outta here after this season.

If we reached for a prospect and overdraft him, leaving better talent on the board at other positions, yes.

But if the right guy is there and we project him to start in '11, at tackle or guard, them I'm good with it.

Take another look at the Viking game and get back to us.

Maybe you need to revisit the Viking game to see which side the pressure actually came from.

Thats my point, they need help in multiple positions. By the way having two guys capable of starting at LT is plus IMO.

Free had been playing right tackle all season, then had to switch over to the left with no time to adjust. Of course he wasn't going to do well.

Colombo should have never even been in that game. That's on the coaches for playing him. Plus the coaches really like Brewster a lot. I'm not saying he'll pan out, but they do need to see what they have in him. Especially with a healthy Colombo coming back, we aren't in a dire situation where we have to have a tackle. JMO of course.

Very interesting.

The draft is on Thursday.

What is up with that?

The NFL decided it was ready for prime time.

The first round on Thursday night, the second and third rounds on Friday night and rounds four through seven Saturday afternoon.

why? Jackson was excellent last year. did you not watch alabama? jackson was a blanket for the most part on his side of the field. kyle wilson is a very good prospect, but if i am drafting, i take jackson.

I'm betting that the pick is going to be Mays or Bryant.

I would be happy with neither but they would make the most sense if they fall to 27.

Interesting comment because I think don't think either make any sense at all at 27. IMO Mays isn't a good cover S and Bryant can't play OL.

Bryant would only make sense because he is the best WR in the draft and is considered by many experts to be a top ten prospect.

Mays would make sense because he comes with a first-round grade from many of the experts. He may not be a top ten pick but he has produced at the college level and he is the best athlete in this draft and can start at SS right away.

I still don't like either. :p:
