Mosley says discussions about roster heating up

Posted by DCFanatic at 8/29/2008 6:05 PM and is filed under Player Info,Cowboys News

Today is a very stressful day for the Cowboys front office and their coaching staff. With all the minor injuries hitting this team in recent weeks there are going to be guys who make the 53-man roster that won't be on the team in a few weeks when those injured players are back and ready to perform.

Here's Matt Mosley from Galloway and Company with some info on the discussions going on right now at Valley Ranch...

Mosley talks roster discussions

I would go with Oglesby over Ball. Dowayne Davis does bring the wood and I could see him getting a look over Courtney Brown who has shown all preseason he's a poor tackler. I still can't see the Cowboys keeping three QB's.

I think right now there is no decisiont to be made. Both Jefferson and Amendola make the roster.

I just don't see the logic in having both WR because one won't be active on gameday.

Nine-year veteran DE/LB Rosevelt Colvin by the Texans, suppose Dallas will have any interest?

It's all going to come down to Stanback. Can he make it out on the field when he hit Cleveland?

If so then I only see the Cowboys keeping one of the two above.

If he can't make it to the field then he's going on IR. He was getting 2 weeks to rehab it.

I would cut Cory Proctor. He gets pushed around by big defensive tackles. He can't anchor the middle in pass protection, and he can't move people in the running game. Why waste a spot on him? He played really bad at Carolina last year, and he hasn't displayed any improvement. I would try Berger at center and perhaps, the new guy. Proctor and Marten played poorly against San Diego's bigger defensive lines. Please, cut him.

James Marten is never going to start in Dallas, imo. He gets beat bad in space (He should start charging admission when they blow past him on the edge.) , and he is too weak to play inside, because he can't anchor. The bullrush destroys him. I would cut him.

IMO, Dallas will look to draft on the offensive line in 2009. I would look for an offensive tackle who could play guard and tackle. Proctor, Berger, and Marten are the weakest links on the team, imo. Free needs competition. I'm not sure he is the answer at LT, and I would look to draft a top notch left tackle. Then, I would draft on the interior of the offensive line.

Andre Smith (Alabama) and Micheal Oher (Ole Miss) are going to be out of reach.

He's pretty much the only backup center on this team

Unfortuneately, you are right.

That is why I would move Berger to a center/guard position and see if the new guy can play it as well. Proctor has looked terrible. Surely, the coaches know he can't play in the NFL at the center position or at guard. If you can't stand up to a bull rush, you can't play. Why waste your time on him? He couldn't even stay on Miami's roster when Houck was there.

As far as Marten is concerned, Kosier would play RT before him.

Ok, so if Stanback is out for Cleveland also then they aren't going to the game with 3 WR's.

Owens, Crayton, Amendola and Jefferson.

If Stanback assures them he will be ready for Cleveland then they won't need either Amendola or Jefferson.

I dont think either of them make the team. I think they know Austin, Hurd, Stanback will be back within a few weeks. They can go short for a week or two.

Or they will sign a veteran who gets cut by another team.

Or a trade for a vet

Neither showed enough to make the roster over another position that will need help.l
