Coming from Massachusetts I've been talking a lot of smack in regards to the Patriots trading Moss.

Clearly their offense isn't going to be nearly as productive as it was. Certainly not with Deion Branch.

But then it got me thinking about the T.O. effect. I remember a game we played against Atlanta, and I forget if it was a player on our team or their team who basically said when we went out on the field there was this feeling that we were going to do what we wanted to do.

I think we've lost that mentality since we lost T.O., Miles Austin has certainly replaced his production, but I think the offense is lacking that killer instinct that we had with T.O. and I honestly believe that the lack of killer instinct and production has directly and negatively effected the defense and their ability to impose their will on teams.

I would say in 2006 and even in 2007 to a certain extent our defense wasn't very good. Our offense really carried us until the defense got together at the end of 2008.

Even then I believe our defense is at its best when our offense puts other teams on their back. Look at what we did to New Orleans. We came out and just started scoring on them. New Orleans was all about imposing their offense against other teams, and forcing them to put the ball up, and cause turnovers.

Our defense is similar to New Orleans, its not like Chicago or Baltimore, its not really aggressive, and thus we don't get a lot turnovers, and our sacks and qb pressure isn't impressive.

Our offense needs to come out firing on every cylinder, and get up by 7,10, 14. Get them to give up on the run early. Force Favre to beat us with Percy Harvin.

Brett Favre has FIVE touchdowns this year, and thats with a game with Moss. Lets not allow this guy to embarrass us okay?!

He dropped a lot of catchable passes, but he also had this persona about him.

We really haven't been the same since.

I think some of the points you bring up are the most misunderstood about TO. The guy definitely was so passionate about winning that he'd actually call out Garrett for being a huge idiot. I think Garrett is in over his head still just like he was when TO was here. We don't utilize our offensive weapons enough, nor do we cater to our strong points. He has not improved one bit as an offensive coordinator and TO actually called him out on it. Now we have this marshmellowy goodness happyland where there's no accountability. It would be nice to have someone call out the poor coaching. After seeing TO get cut, I doubt most of the players on this roster would go public with their disdain. TO lost millions in that whole fiasco. That's why I think it's naive for people on here to believe we really know the actual thoughts of players. They're covering their butts to keep a contract. I would do the same.

Also, you're probably gonna get bashed on here for starting this thread since lots of people would rather be critical than actually contribute useful thoughts and opinions. Don't let it bother you.

You bring up great points. He misused T.O. for the longest time, and then near the end was doing it again. And then it took Roy Williams until his 3rd season in the offense before he was utilized in a manner in which he could be successful.

Even Romo has been critical of the play calling in the past. Jason Garrett really doesn't get it. I think he is hurting this team more than anyone.

Let's watch and see on that, my friend.

TO didn't get cut because he disagreed with Garrett or called him out on things. He got cut cause he did so publically which no player, ever, should do toward another player or a coach.

You handle those issues in house, privately. It's never, ever, for any reason a good idea to air that stuff to the media or the fans.

I've thought for the last few years this team didn't believe in themselves. I don't think they thought they were anything special.

Even last year when we had that whole "Believe" thing going, I don't think it ever manifested with the players themselves.

I remember hearing some of the players from the Landry era say that they ALWAYS thought they could go out and do what they wanted to do when the team finally became elite.

They knew they were going to win. Then we had that in the 90's when we started winning.

I just don't think this team, and maybe it's a reflection on the coach, doesn't think they are anything special and therefore plays that way.

They need an attitude adjustment.

I think the team as a whole lacks in any "killer instinct", or, at the least, an argument could be made that is the case.

I agree that we don't have anyone with the swagger or the fire of a T.O, Ray Lewis, Tom Brady or even a Brian Urlacher....and as much as people might dismiss that kind of thing confidence is an important component to winning football teams.
