SPIKES OUT IN PHILLY . . . MOSS IN?
On Friday night, an eagle-eyed reader in Philly pointed out to us that the Eagles' depth chart shows Asante Samuel as the starter at left cornerback, and Lito Sheppard as the second-stringer.
So we shared that info with PFT Planet, and several members of the Philly chapter pointed out that nowhere on the depth chart are the words "Takeo" or "Spikes."
And that is prompting speculation that Spikes and his $5 million base salary are on the way out. Since 2008 is the final year of his contract, cutting him would give the Eagles an immediate $5 million in cap space, with no acceleration.
The possible departure of Spikes and the arrival of receiver Randy Moss on the open market has prompted speculation that the Eagles might make a run at Randy.
The wild card in all of this is Samuel. He's in a position to greatly influence the Eagles, one way or the other, on the value of Moss. Samuel was with the Pats for four seasons before Moss, so he's in a great position to provide the powers-that-be with the inside look at the "before" and the "after".
Stay tuned. Prior to signing Asante, the Eagles were coy about trading Sheppard, likely because they didn't want a repeat of the LeCharles Bentley episode in their quest for Samuel. The wheels might quietly be in motion as to Spikes because the Eagles hope to soar under radar if they decide to try to reel in Randy.
Hey, if T.O. and Moss can't play on the same team, the next best thing is having him in the same division.

If we can't have him, please God keep him in the AFC. And I certainly don't want to go against Moss twice per year.

Why Spikes being there or not being there has any affect on Moss, is beyond me.

The Eagles have all the cap room in the world.

SPIKES IS BACK ON THE DEPTH CHART
In the 40 minutes or so since we pointed out that the Eagles' current depth chart doesn't include Takeo Spikes, the veteran linebacker has been reinstated to it.
As one reader explained it, Stroud possibly was omitted because he finished the 2007 season in IR. And in their zeal to install on the depth chart Asante Samuel, who wasn't even on the roster in 2007, the Eagles apparently overlooked the fact that other players still on the team weren't listed on the chart.
Of course, it doesn't mean that Spikes will be on the opening-day roster; the Eagles can realize a $5 million cap savings by dumping him at any time before the eve of the regular-season opener. For now, though, he is still on the squad.

I wonder how many of our "I dont want Moss Mensa candidates" will change thier tune if any NFC East team invites Moss in for a look see!

I just don't get it. Why are some guys afraid of Moss, or for that matter any other player, coming to NFC East? Why don't you worry about the Cowboys being the best team and careless about others.

Wouldn't you like the Cowboys to go against the best and beat them, or you just want an easy way to the playoffs and a lucky win here and there so they can witn the Super Bowl?

Seriously. Moss was killing us when we flat out sucked. We never had an "elite" team in over a decade til last year and if just so happened to be that he was in NE. Him going to Philly doesnt make them the favorite. It takes them from 4th place to 2nd. That is all.

Hey Romo to T.O. is lethal and if they add a healthy Javon Walker and Terry Glenn and Crayton I'd be more than happy...

Not worried either way. McNabb always finds a way to lose in the end. Romo is already twice the QB McNabb will ever be. Romo finds ways to win. McNabb finds ways to lose.
