The Shutdown Corner blog on Yahoo has an article on the 5 Best Shutdown Quarterbacks in the NFL.
Here's the list:
Brady
Rothlisberger
Manning
Warner
And.........................(drumroll please)...........DONOVAN McNUBB!!!!
I'm aware of my bias against McNabb, and I'm fully predisposed to have little use for the guy. So anything positive that's spoken about McNabb, I'm going to poke holes in it anyway.
But to list him as a top five "clutch" QB is absolutely nuts, even if you're a Beagle fan IMO. The article list's a few reasons for this pick of course. Reasons that you can pick out of the air for a lot of QB's if you MUST, to get him on the list.
McNabb is in fact one of biggest chokers and UN-Clutch QB's I've know in my lifetime. In fact, if you look up the word "choke" in the dictionary, there's a picture of Little Donny. He's the poster boy for an NFL tombstone to read: "He played pretty good. Won a lot of games. Had good numbers in a pass-happy offense. But, just when it counted the most, he never pulled it off. Couldn't win the big one. Always came up short in the biggest games."
His backers and promoters will always throw out the obligatory excuses. Like he never had a supporting cast. Philly never embraced him. Injuries. Etc..............But the fact is, is that McNabb is one of a diminishing few QB's who had the same coaching and offensive scheme his entire career, played for the same team and a system that's is tailor made for a QB to succeed..................and STILL can't pull it off.
McNabb, in reality, belongs at the top of "the 5 biggest CHOKERS" of all time. Certainly not on a list of "the 5 top clutch" QBs. Not even close.....
