Duane Thomas -- I was a huge Calvin Hill fan; loved his running style and his story. I hated seeing Duane Thomas, who didn't seem to appreciate the NFL or the Cowboys, take his starting spot.

I should have included him in my original list. I could not believe how much we gave up for him, still I looked at the positives...young talented WR, that I saw make fools of people while he was a longhorn, had success in Detroit. I tried so hard to like the player, but he just was so lackadaisical, an aweful route runner, dropped what seemed like 1/3 of the balls TR put right in his hands. Oh and he seemed scared to run slants even though he was a half a foot taller than most defensive backs. Gosh did I miss anything? Sorry that trade still gets me. Happy New Years folks, let's start on a positive note and beat philly!

Jay Ratliff and Kyle Orton both take the cake for how they didn't give a crap about the team and defrauded it out of money.

A long time ago there was Lance Rentzel who exposed himself to a child. Weirdo. And Greg Hardy -- no explanation needed.

I also don't begrudge a player for simply not being talented. Some players have it and some don't. I would only begrudge a player for not working hard and thus wasting talent.
I wondered when someone would finally mention Rentzel!! He's been in the Cowboy skeleton closet for years.

Never heard of him, I didn't start fallowing my team until I was ten in 1994. Was he as sick as it sounds, or am I going to open a Pandora's box here? I'm curious by nature, I would like to hear what his story is...anyone?

This has been a good thread with a lot of names I forgot. It's hard to separate the person from the player but I have a hard time calling a player despised when the effort was there.

Not a fan of Deion but he did his job. Same with T.O
The weird thing about the Rentzel exposing himself to a child thing? At the time he was married to Joey Heatherton, who was smoking hot.

Yep Lance was an integral part of the late 60's early 70's team. He was kind of Mike Renfro and Cole Beasley.

No excuse for what he did and never knew what eventually happened to him but you are right about Joey - remember the Sealy mattress commercials?

We had no contingency plan for life after Aikman when at that point, we should have been trying to rebuild starting with QB. Instead, the owner tried to put more and more around Aikman and it just didn't work. After that, it was a series of mistakes.

Randall Cunningham
Ryan Leaf
Quincy Carter
Chad Hutchinson
Drew Henson
Vinny Testaverde
Drew Bledsoe
Kellen Moore
Matt Cassel
Tony Romo

I see one QB on that list that was drafted by us and that's Quincy Carter, who was drafted by Jerry Jones.
The rest were either has beens or scrubs picked up off the street. This is how Jones used to pick QBs, because he believed that he was smarter than anyone in the NFL.

Tony was an undrafted player that's supposed to take America's Team to the Super Bowl and he just never had the pedigree to do it. What I dislike most about Romo is the time wasted on him. We could have drafted another QB 5 years ago and let the competition begin but of course, we wasted another 5 years dealing with a guy who never really was a Super Bowl contending QB.

Since the drafting of Tyron Smith, I don't think Jones had anything to do with drafting. This is where we started to build our team capped off by a mistake Dak Prescott who turned out to be a gem. If not for how Dak has played, we'd still be digging in the dumpster for QBs.

Luckily we don't have to worry about that at the time. Now Prescott has about 4 to 5 years to get to the Super Bowl, if he doesn't, there's no need to waste anymore time on him, honestly. To me, Jones pushed Romo on us. He knew the guy couldn't win the big one, but he was exciting and that's what fans liked, so he kept pushing him down our throats, paid him gazzillions and now we're stuck with his price tag. I'm not sure if Jones' has learned his lesson about pedigree or picking a ready made, top-notched QB as high as possible in the draft, or a guy who played in a tough division who excelled, but thank God we don't have to worry about that right now. Hopefully by the time Dak retires in 14 years, Jones will be in a nursing home in Wiley somewhere and can be FAR FAR away from QBs.
I think you are completely wrong on why we never had the ultimate success with Romo but I am happy with the season so I will not argue. Happy New Years my friend!!!!

Who are your top three Despised Cowboys ever? Could be due to on field struggles or off field shannanigans.

Mine:

1. Quincy Carter - brought out worst in Cowboy fans and then ends it all in Dallas with drug charge. I put some of this on Jerry for drafting him way way too early.

2. J. Ratliff - his abrasive behavior to owner in locker room still doesn't sit well with me. Turned out to be total classless act after getting paid by Jerry. I thought for sure he wouldn't last long in league but had few years there in Chicago.

3. Ed Norton Jr - great player who leaves a great young Cowboys team for arch rival 49ers. Unforgivable.
