Mazi.

He can have the single most impact on the team.
Cooks helps the offense, Gilmore helps the defense. But it wasn't like that didn't already have a few WR's as well, a few CB's. Bland would have been decent at CB.

Mazi, along with Hankins, cleans up that DL much more. Once he learns a pass rush, and the move the pocket back, as well, stop the run so much better.
It allows other players to be freed up to do what the are supposed to do.
That extra 1/2 a second making the QB hold onto the ball can create turnovers, sacks, errant throws. Not every down, but if you can create good field position as well. This is where Cooks comes in.

Same thing could be said about Cooks and reaching for a WR in the draft.
True but the defense needed to pick a defensive lineman. If we didn’t trade for Gilmore we would have drafted Porter Jr. Not a bad player but I think we needed to focus on the line.

For whoever we felt about our corners and dts…..they fit by with it. But I can’t sit here and watch Noah Brown or Dennis Houston as our number 2 receiver. I’ll say Cooks.

Mind you they could’ve got him for a 1st last year…months later get him for a 5th. Good stuff.

Is that facts? Because Gilmore shouldn’t affect the draft he’s not going to be here long.

Gilmore because it is a passing league. A veteran in the backfield is a huge plus and allows Quinn to be a little more attack oriented with the front 7.

I agree that stopping the run is important but how many of the teams the Cowboys are going to face want to run the ball down their throat?

Cooks and Gilmore have proven they can play at the NFL level, Smith has not.

Without Gilmore we still have Lewis and Brand. Gilmore just makes us stacked at the position.
Mazi starts over Hankins. He has Hankins power plus a whole lot of quickness. Without him we are average with Hankins and company.
Cooks is starting over Gallup and Tolbert. For different reasons one or both could step up and be worthy of WR2 but there are as many or more to think not. Cooks nails down a void at WR2.

All are going to be major contributors but Cooks makes the most difference.

This is why I don't get the negativity regarding Dallas' offseason. The only meaningful loss was Schultz and his replacement got drafted. Might even be an upgrade. Outside of that, Dallas has upgraded at least these three weak spots.

Let's be honest, to end the season Dallas had some really low end players on the field at CB. Noah Brown should never be a regular for a WR corps. The DT's outside of Hankins were a joke. These 3 spots were pretty large holes for Dallas that the rest of the team had to overcome.

The O line will be interesting but Connor McGovern isn't some huge loss. He was the weak spot last year.

Brandin Cools had a thousand yard season with three different teams which mean three different QB's. That tells me he can adjust quickly to his new QB's style.

Gallup will be better than last season but three high quality receiving threats should help Dak improve and as Dak goes, so do the Cowboys.

Looking back at last season, one of Dak's greatest issues was lack of open targets that he used to have when Cooper was there. He had to try to force too many in.

for those who voted Mazi and Gilmore, I would remind them that this defense only gave up 310 total yards and 19 points against one of the best offenses in the Niners play-off game…..the defense was plenty good enough before getting Mazi and Gilmore

However, the greatest hope is that Cooks can help an offense that scored 1 TD and 12 points against the Niners in that same game…….yes, Pollard went down but the passing offense went AWOL as usual in big games

I don't see Cooks and Gilmore as progress stoppers but more mentors like Peters was to Tyler Smith last year.
