Based on interviews, free agents available, coaching history and draft and visits this is what I think will happen.

Free Agency:
QB: Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush
WR: Amari Cooper, Randall Cobb
TE: Blake Jarwin

DT: Antwon Woods, Austin Johnson
DE: Robert Quinn (Randy Gregory reinstated & Tyrone Crawford restructured)
LB: Sean Lee
CB: Anthony Brown
S: Jeff Heath

I think we'll sign our guys and look to protect compo picks for Byron Jones, Michael Bennett (if he plays on), Maliek Collins, and Joe Looney.

Hard to figure out who the DT we target in FA will be, and we might even look for a cheap trade instead (similar to what we did with Bennett/Quinn). I do think it's going to be a bigger guy we target, and if it's a free agent I think it's someone that will be taken on day two after the big names are gone. Austin Johnson fits that criteria while also having journalism aspirations so the Cowboys and it's media machine might have appeal.

Draft:
Rd 1 - 17 C.J
CJ Henderson (CB)

He was a combine interview, has a good SPARQ score, it's a position of need, and he's from a big school program. I can't see us not being interested, he ticks all the boxes.

Rd 2 Rashard Lawrence (DT)
Risky players in the 2nd round is our thing. He might not fall this low because he's got 1st round talent but the same could be said about Gregory. He was also a combine interview, and we know Dallas has a higher tolerance than most organizations to off-field red flags.

Rd 3 Prince Tega Wanogho (OT)
The new Chaz Green. Big school, good length and athleticism, and a visit. It's another position expensive to fill in free agency and I can't see us keeping Fleming at 5m for the season. Maybe earlier than we would of liked but he's well worth the pick IMO.

Rd 4 Brandon Jones (S)
I'm not high on this player but we need a safety and probably should have addressed it earlier in the draft. but Jones is a smart kid and a solid player from Ohio. Not the best athlete but he's a footballer.

2 x Rd 5 - Justin Stnrd (LB) & Omar Bayless (WR)
I'm certain we're gonna select guys that we "have a 2nd round grade" on but it's hard to pick who they will be. Probably one of WR and TE along with a LB so I went with guys that are little bit under the radar.

Rd 7 - Cheyanne O'Grady (TE)
For no other reason than we need a TE and he's from Arkansas

I agree, we definitely need to CB early either round one or two. It will depend on free agency but if they can't afford Jones it's doubful they'll find someone capable of replacing him.

I have done a bunch of my own mocks and I keep seeing AJ epenesa as our 17th pick. Not very sexy..but he is a big heavy handed DE. A pure power guy. So being realistic at 17...I see good odds of this being our pick.

Let's hope not..

That would be a very underwhelming choice.

Is Chaisson on the board when Esepensa is? You gotta take Chaisson ahead of him.

So our safeties are Heath and Woods again and a rookie?

Yeah, no thanks.

It’s not what I hope will happen, it’s what I think will happen. Anything more (including a competent safety) would be a bonus.

I don't mean to be insulting, but...

... I would rather spend draft weekend bedridden with fever, delirious with no idea of what is real and hoping for relief from the constant misery, than to watch each one of these picks go off in the order they're slotted.

What really displeases me isn't how much I'm against it so much as it is that I can't say it's impossible. So congratulations on your accomplishment and may God have mercy on your soul.

Donovan Wilson will make the 53 and be a player.

Maybe but it would be dumb to bank a starting position on a kid that barely played last year.

that’s how you end up with Heatha fb Woods starting again.

It’s not ideal for me, but fairly realistic based on the visits.

I’ll be pretty happy if we can just resign our own FAs.

Be thankful you won't be seeing Rod Marinelli fist-pumping in the war room after another **** pick. I mean every now and then there's a surprise like Jaylon Smith or Travis Frederick but for the most part we've been straight shooters. Really the harder part is figuring out who will be there.

I would love us to sign a safety in FA but we didn't last year and I don't see a reason to think any different this year.

There are guys out there that represent upgrades. Tre Boston, for example, probably would come cheap and he's been very good the last few years.

I am hoping with the addition of Nolan and a new defensive staff that we suddenly realize we can't keep just throwing average to below average players out at S and think it's a good idea.

I hope so but wasn't Tre Boston available until something like the end of July last year. Even after leaving it in the draft until the 5th? We still didn't take look. You don't want to be on bad decisions but not sure I expect the front office to change as much as others think they will.

He was available and then he was snapped up an played well again.

For all we know, the shriveled up DC w the ball cap went to the FO and said "as long as you get me this Trystan Hill, dont worry about safety."

Hoping new staff = less complete incompetence.

Well what's been reported is that Hill was a McClay guy, not a Marinelli guy, so there's that.
