These are the guys who either get little notice, fanfare or are under appreciated. Always debatable, but always fun. Here’s my list:

5. L.P. Ladouceur- every time we are kicking for points, this guy matters. He’s one of the best.

4. Bryon Jones- this guy takes a bad rap in my opinion. Yes, he’s made some poor plays and hasn’t had enough picks but he’s a lot more solid at several things that he gets little credit for. And he’s durable. Hasn’t missed a game. I remember the strange love for Mo Claiborne who was never half as good as B Jones.

3. Rod Smith- an excellent special teams guy in addition to being a very solid RB with power and some sneaky speed for a guy carrying 240 lbs. He’s the kind of guy every team needs and though he’ll probably never be an All Pro, he’s valuable.

2. Cameron Fleming- I know he hasn’t played for us yet, but I think he is going to be very valuable if and when Tyron Smith has any back issues. Not great but loads better than Chaz “Lookout!” Green. As a swing T, he’s already upgraded our OL.

1. Chris Jones- not only a helluva punter, the dude is already legendary for his hits on coverage. But most importantly he can flip a field. He put the ball inside the 20 as good as anyone in the league. He’s literally a weapon for our defense.

Thoughts? Who did I leave out?

I'm not sure Chris Jones is underrated anymore. Last year I would have agreed.

I think Byron has moved from being overrated his first couple of years to being underrated now, so I agree there.

I say Heath and TWill are underrated too. They make plays but are thought of as being complete trash by too many people.

I almost put Heath on here. I agree that he’s better than he gets credit for.

Byron Jones will not receive a second contract. Was a bad pick at the time and turned out to be a horrendous pick considering who was taken after him.
I was shocked to read they that they were likely picking up his option. A worse tackler than Deion or Claiborne and has zero instincts. An athlete trying to play football nothing more.

Picking up the option makes sense for depth purposes and it's not a crazy amount of money. But I do not think he gets a second contract and he shouldn't.

I was going to say Heath. The starting thing may not have worked as well as we wanted as fans. But everything else he is underrated on. I love his take no prisoners attitude. We need more of that.

Ladouceur is definitely the most underappreciated. I like Chris Jones and, having been a kicker in HS until a massive injury, I will always be partial to the kicker/punter. However, Ladouceur is the one that makes the whole special teams operation work. Without him, Jones can't be the punter he is, and Bailey can't kick the ball. He's been doing it for a long time for a reason. He's been sensational.
