A year ago we were wondering if D-Law was a bust and thinking it might be his last year. Fast forward one year and he will be one of the highest paid players at DE in the league and if he has another good year he might sign a record contract next year. The reason for the franchise tag is the team is worried that he may be a contract year warrior.

This begs the question do we have any potential contract year dynamos this year?

We all know "Clappy the clown"(credit to the poster that coined the phrase) isn't the motivating factor. Money is!

A list of players that could suddenly put it together this year and surprise just in time for a new contract.

D-Law - needs to prove last year was no fluke so he can get the big prize next year.
Irving- Could make his own case for being in a similar situation to DLaw next year.
Dez- Even though he has two years left he is an easy cut next year and on a tightrope.
Damien Wilson - Last year of his contract. Can he put it together.
Dak- Also has two years left but teams like to re-sign QB's early so this is a very important year for him.
Gregory - Last year of his contract. Get reinstated? Stay clean? Go from zero to hero? Maybe.
Hanna and Swaim - Last year for both and with Witten nearing the end the motivation should be there.
Byron Jones - Last year unless they use the 5th year option. Should be motivated.
Chaz Green - Last year of his contract as well. He is at a position of need. Can he put it together and earn a second contract? The motivation should be there.

This is a long list of players that have a huge amount of money riding on their accomplishments this year. Let's hope it brings out the best in them.

I'm on my last year as a fan, hopefully I'll cheer up to Jerry's expectations.

One thing that strikes me about guys on this list like Chaz Green or Randy Gregory is this- how bad do you have to be before this team is willing to cut bait? In Green’s case, he’s got the double whammy of beingoften injured and sucking big time when he did play. I felt he should have been a “message cut” already.

D law flashed a few times in his first 3 years. Sack fumble in the playoffs rookie season. 8 sack year in 15. Byron hasn't been injured or suspended and has zero production other than tackles.

He did return an interception for a TD and force a fumble last year. Let's see what he can do in a contract year.

It is a make of break year for him. He has the physical skills. If he can put it together he can earn a 2nd contract. If not he probably ends up signing somewhere else for cheap.

Good list

Unfortunately This team and organization are the poster child for fat and happy

Until we get a real HC who will actually change the culture of the team this is just window dressing

It's gotten so bad that we are forced to compile a list of 'motivated' players that includes Randy Gregory for fans to cling to some semblance of hope.

"motivated" MAYBE

Some of these players are going to make themselves some money this year. Some will be shown the door. I certainly wouldn't bet on Gregory but if he is ever going to put it together and straighten out, it will be this year.

Gregory hasn't even been reinstated yet so not sure how much they will get out of him all the players you listed are really on the bubble kinda of this season

This isn't the last year of Gregory's contract. He hasn't been on the roster due to his suspensions therefore the time isn't taken off. I believe that they still have him for 3 seasons.

"Motivation" has not been the problem for players like Byron Jones, Chaz Green, Damien Wilson, Hanna and Swaim.

Lack of ability is more accurate.

A motivated Chaz Green is still a turnstile.

Interesting. Rotoworld shows him as being a F.A. in 2019 but I do remember reading that his suspensions didn't count as years of the contract.

Don't want to hijack this into a Gregory thread, but I'd like to see him on the field.

What would the 5th year option on Byron cost?

He hasn't even applied for re-instatement. He could have done so in November but chose not to. Something tells me he's not playing cowboys this year
