Anyone following this story?

Guy killed 7 today and looks as though it was partly triggered by his rejected advances?

Unreal.

Uhg. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised. We have a huge problem with violence in this country. At the heart of it, I suspect, is a lot of pent-up emotional trouble.

This ex-con seemed to have targeted two ex girlfriends and their families in two separate homes. He was released for aggravated assault and was quoted during the hostage stand off as asking officers "where the best place would be to stand in the house; so the snipers could take him out...ending the standoff" Criminally insane and a very ugly tragedy (for the victims/families).

I hear constant whining from some that you HAVE to give EVERYONE a second chance and about how someone PAID their debt to society. I think it is more important that the innocent be protected from clear violent predators like this.

Is this about the same guy? I don't think he ever had a girlfriend.

Here are his encounters with the police before:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/05/24/shooting-california-santa-barbara/9532405/

Police had interacted with the suspected murderer before Friday.

Officers interviewed Rodger on April 30 in a welfare check requested by his family, Brown said. Officers concluded he was "polite, courteous" and downplayed any difficulties. Rodger told officers he had problems in his social life.

Authorities did not find a history of guns, but did say Rodger had trouble making friends.

Deputies also encountered Rodger earlier this year when he accused a roommate of stealing three candles, and in another case case in which he claimed to be beaten but deputies suspected he was the aggressor.

No where have I seen holding hostages, etc. He even said I believe in one of his videos that he had never even kissed a girl.

Oh, thanks for the clarification MonsterD. I thought I found the relevant article via Google but was mistaken. Sorry about that.

Just reading he was diagnosed with Asperger's. This is the second straight mass killing where the perpetrator had Asperger's.

Watched his last video he posted. Seemed to blame his problems w/ getting girls on everyone else but himself.

I just watched the video. How was this guy not busted after he posted the YouTube video? Don't they monitor that stuff? Dude said exactly where he was gonna go to kill people.

Anyway, he talks weird. Hard to take him seriously. Just weird. But anyway, my point still stands. How the heck were the feds not at his door an hour after he posted that?

I've been at forums since 2000 and too often, the WWW is promoted as a magical place you have ABSOLUTE freedom of expression to the point your favorite European Social Democracy would seem fascist in comparison. Inmates are running the asylum. Spammers and hackers are rampant - I've suffered at a number of forums moderators have let a few members with disorders such as Aspergers (a fact at one forum I frequent) ruin it.

In the more extreme cases, some have bullied teens to suicide, and now this self-absorbed student that posted his threat on YouTube.

Seriously, authorities need to be allowed to identify and arrest such people

I saw his video & he was just whining. Obviously a troubled kid. How sad that this was all reported & he was deemed ok.

Yeah the Sandy Hook elementary school. And I think the Batman movie theater from a few years ago.

I'm sure there's been other incidents since those though. Most aren't reported to any great extent.
