Murray's Work Load

I would honestly sit him out a whole half against the jags. I think the line is good enough where we can get production from Randle and we should handle the Jags easily.

This offense needs to stick with the run but I wish we didn't have to run Murray so much. Either Randle and Dunbar step up or we need some blowouts.

IMO, Murray looked completely drained at the end of the game... so yeah, he needs a couple more breathers.

The big thing is we won't be able to rest him in the playoffs nor would we won't to. Rest him in spurts, before the bye, get leads and then sit him down for a series or two.

It's not like Randle and Dunbar have been awful..

JG knows how to do it. It's not really the number of runs or collisions in pass protection. (Those affect the career more than the season). What you don't want is to have him out there when tired--that's an injury waiting to happen. Emmitt used to rest one series in each half. It helps to have a set plan, like first series of 2nd quarter and final series of 3rd quarter--that way Murray expects it, and his backup is ready to roll.

I find it stunning when I read members of the media (many ex-players) that say "run him until his feet bleed"

Dallas is having a special start to this season. It APPEARS that we are a Super Bowl contender. The primary reason is because of the running game. It has covered a lot of warts on this team. To have a LEGITIMATE chance of making a Super Bowl run....the running game is going to have to remain strong for 16 weeks AND a playoff run. ANYBODY who thinks that Murray's effectiveness will remain at the same level for the rest of the regular season AND the playoffs is simply out of their mind IMHO!

This is NOT about Murray and some rushing record. This is about the Dallas Cowboys having the most succesful season it possibly can. And whatever numbers he has at the end of our season....record or no record...will be what they will be.

In order for this ride the DALLAS COWBOYS are on to continue....Murray's workload MUST be reduced. Reduced during the week....reduced during the game..and heck if our playoff seeding is locked in....he can even sit the last game as far as I am concerned. The reason "RB by commitee" is the approach in the MODERN day NFL....is because defenders are too big....too strong....too fast....and RBs simply cannot absorb what Emmit did. Not saying Emmit was not special...because he definitely was. But I don't know if he could do today....what he did in the early 90s. Not only that...there are plenty of people on this offense that are getting a paycheck, so this should not be about working DeMarco like a rented mule. Using Escobar..using Williams...using Beasley....using Randle....using Dunbar....will keep Dez, Witten, and DeMarco fresh...and it will make defenses have to gameplan for everyone.

Needles to say....I am not on board with DeMarco chasing Eric Dickerson....and I hope this organization does not get caught up in that....and lose sight of the REAL prize

It has to be a game by game thing. If we get into a game where the score is lopsided then I agree about resting him. But so far there's really only been 2 lopsided games this year with Tennessee which was still only a 2 possession game. Might as well have been 8 possessions with their offense. And Saints which if they get going 3 possession game is like nothing. If the score is say 31-10 midway through the 3rd quarter. I get resting Murray and some of the other starters. Otherwise why not let him get 30 a game if that's the way the game is flowing.

They've been giving Randle/Dunbar the final drive of the first quarter, so far, I think. I'd give them a series in the 2nd quarter as well.

Running backs the toll is more cumulative, until this year he has not had to carry the workload, maybe those early injuries in career will keep his legs fresh.

I think Randle has shown good ability. He can catch and block pretty well too. He's your third down back.

The Cowboys are not a screen team. Not a wheel route team. Not a west coast offensive team. The Cowboys run the football down your throat. I'd much rather see Ryan Williams on the 46 than Dunbar.

Every player on the field should be completely drained after each game.

Murray's last significant gain on the last drive, where he countered to the right and outran a defender and ran over another -- still looked quick and strong.

As long as he wants the the ball, he's earned the right to get it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this 100 yard streak stretches a few more weeks.

I hear you, but Murray's reps is something the player, medical staff, and the game plan should decide.

Breathers yes.

After three 8-8 seasons you don't save anyone for the future.

Romo and Witten are entering twilight of their respective careers.

THE TIME IS NOW!

I would love to see him get some more breathers in the game but I don't think it is as easy is planning this series or that series, the game will dictate a lot of it. In close game you are not going to keep you best players sitting.

The offense is different with him in there, and defenses play the team differently when he is in there, he sat for whole series and the offense sputtered, not to mention he missed s few minutes with the ankle injury before half.

i would love to see hi at 20 carries a game. but i would sure have a hard time taking him off the field myself. much like when ware was here, i thought he should get less reps to sty fresh but special players are hard to take off the field. randle has ran well so maybe he can get a few more snaps a game if he can stay out of dillards

And if they don't make it to the playoffs? What then? Yes, you've spared him 30, 40...50 carries to keep under the boogeyman number of 370, but you also have nothing to show for it but next year, which may or may not happen, because he could go down in training camp, pre-season etc. You can't protect this man from injury...it happens...just a question of when and where.

Your opinion is that Randle and Dunbar can do what Murray is doing. Maybe they can, but likely they can't. They are definitely not as physical as Murray...they don't have his size either, let alone his blocking prowess. Murray could go down on the practice field tomorrow and then what? The assumption that this team has the playoffs already in the bag is specious, and its the same argument that everyone is using to harass the Cowboys about his carries. The talk is that he's wearing down and slowing down, but what about every other player on both sides of the ball...the attrition of an NFL season does not just affect a running back...offensive and defensive linemen are crashing violently against each other for 60-80 snaps per game for 16 weeks...injuries are going to happen and you won't get to choose when or where they occur.

The bottom line is this...the Cowboys are like a perfect storm right now...swirling over an ocean of high latent heat...there is an equilibrium that is keeping everything tightly wound. Disturbing that equilibrium by choice seems counterproductive and the coaches must be wary of the team's late season swoons. Momentum lost is sometimes tough to regain. Granted an injury might take that choice from them, but Dallas must win now and worry about pitch counts later. Otherwise, they are putting the cart before the horse. Murray will be THE biggest reason that Dallas makes the playoffs...if they do in fact make it.
