Since people seem to think that Lamar doesn't have the individual stats to win the award, I wanted to compare him with the other top rated passers.
Only passing (top 4 rated QBs, sorted by QB rating):
1. Brock - 113 rating, 9.6 ypa, 4280 yards, 69.4% comp, 31 td, 11 int
2. Dak - 104.2 rating, 7.6 ypa, 4237 yards, 68.4% comp, 32 td, 8 int
3. Tua - 103 rating, 8.4 ypa, 4451 yards, 69.6% comp, 28 td, 12 int
4. Lamar - 102.7 rating, 8 ypa, 3678 yards, 67.2% comp, 24 td, 7 int
Including running (sorted by yards):
1. Tua - 4518 yards, 28 td
2. Lamar - 4499 yards, 29 td
3. Dak - 4479 yards, 34 td
4. Brock - 4424 yards, 33 td
Total turnovers (sorted by fewest):
1. Dak - 10 total (8 int, 2 fumbles)
2. Lamar - 13 total (7 int, 6 fumbles)
3. Brock - 13 total (11 int, 2 fumbles)
4. Tua - 17 total (12 int, 5 fumbles)
So including Lamar's 821 rushing yards (5 rushing TDs), he's ahead of Dak and Brock in total yards. Even including his 6 lost fumbles (he runs more), he's behind only Dak for total turnovers (Tua has 5 lost fumbles despite only rushing for 67 yards all season).
Overall, Lamar is right up there with these guys statistically. They all have about the same number of total yards and completion percentage. Tua has the worst total TD/turnover ratio. Dak has a slightly better TD/turnover ratio than Brock, but Brock's yards per attempt gives him the edge in QB rating. You could argue that Dak (or Brock) have the best statistics, but they're not significantly better than Lamar, whose team just embarrassed the best teams in the NFC and AFC the past few weeks.
Individual statistics + team success + wins over top opponents = Lamar is MVP.
