MVP level QB play?

Streaky is a very good description of Romo, when he's on he's unstoppable but if he starts making mistakes he'll usually follow them up with more

Take away his fourth quarter against the Jets and the second half against the Lions, and Romo has played near flawless football this season.

Now, a lot of people will say, "Exactly! He's streaky! Those quarters were terrible!"

It also means he has effectively played 33 of 36 quarters -- plus an overtime -- of near perfect football.

Has Sanchez even played three quarters of good football this season?

I guess you'd have to define perfection, I think Romo has had his ups and downs. If he were playing 33 perfect quarters of football, we wouldn't be 5-4.

Or perhaps the Dallas cowboys haven't played perfectly in 33 quarters of football would be more accurate.

Nah it fells better to just blame Romo.

Oh how I wish we could.

Hmmm....if you are going to describe Romo as streaky then then you can add Brady, Brees, Scahub, Flacco, Cutler, etc.

It's a bad description and doesn't apply. All QBs have good and bad games.

Notice I did not put Rogers or Rivers in there. Rogers isn't streaky, he's flat out insane and Rivers has not been streaky this year, he flat out has been bad.

It's long been my opinion that Romo's mistakes are magnified and and then exagorated to act as if they occur more frequently than they do.

You're not the league's fourth-highest-rated QB -- both in QBR and traditional QB Rating -- by playing spotty, erratic, streaky football. It just doesn't happen in my opinion.

Come on now. Romo was at an MVP level for THIS GAME. No question at all about that. But MVP isn't based on one game. It's no more legitimate to say Romo is at an MVP level after this game as it would have been to say Romo is a sub par QB after one of the earlier games where he threw multiple INT's.

Romo is a quality NFL QB, but he needs to string together wins and top games to be deemed at an MVP level.

I'm not sure that really applies. I would think a streaky QB would have a bunch of multi-interception games.

Romo makes mistakes, sometimes very big mistakes, but he's a pretty consistent quarterback overall. It's too bad the rib injury has made people question him seemingly even more this season.

No one is talking about just yesterday's game. This whole thread is about nine games of football, or nearly 55 percent of the season.

Using all the statistical measures a QB can be judged by, multiple rating systems deem Romo to be the fourth-highest rated passer through those nine games. Meaning essentially three QBs are playing better.

Clearly, there's never been an MVP candidate from a 5-4 team. But individually, Romo is playing at a very high level.

Romo has yet to prove he's a championship QB. There's no denying that. And nothing will erase that unless he wins a Lombardi.

But I'm right there with you -- some of the misconception surrounding this guy is laughable.

He's the third-highest-rated QB of all time, and the fourth-highest rated this season. But he's streaky, a la Mark Sanchez? Are you flippin' kidding me?

That 4th QTR against the Jets carried over into the 49'ers game where he was terrible until the 2nd half, yeah i know the injury excuse is coming next here so i'll just preempt that and say he got hurt early in that game. He was pretty bad in the Skins game to but got hot in the 4th and made some plays, that carried over into the Lions game where he started out red hot in the first half until he made a mistake, then 2, then 3.

He started to look great again last week which obviously carried over until yesterday where he came out on fire

"Streaky" is a very good description of Romo this year and it's a pretty neutral description so the Romo defense force can just calm down it's not "hate"

If this is the definition of streaky, then we've got 31 streaky starting quarterbacks in the NFL, no?

Eli is streaky. Brady has certainly been streaky. Brees when on the road. The list goes on.

I will easily concede Romo is having a good season, and he is a good QB, but I also believe nobody was tossing around the MVP idea until some got hyped up over this one game.

MVP has never been decided on QB rating. QB rating is A tool, not THE tool for evaluating a QB as an MVP candidate, and of course QB rating doesn't even consider the fact that QB's are not the only players who are eligible to be MVP. Considering Romo INT's in a couple of games were major factors in losses, his candidacy for MVP has some flaws that merely looking at QB rating can't show, and like it or not, winning is still a major consideration in determining MVP.

It's crazy, isn't it? They'll be bringing that Detroit game up every time he does something bad.

Well, I suppose he can work on his tackling. :)

You can say Romo is having a solid season overall despite being hindered by a broken rib and spotty offensive line play and no running game for most of the season and it would be true.

But the year Rodgers is having is one of those rare freaky years where just being good is not enough. Rodgers is on a completely different and unbelievable level so far. Hopefully he will come back down to earth some before the season is over.

I agree. If you take away all Romo's bad play, he's not streaky at all.

Yeah, Romo isn't sniffing MVP this year. Rodgers has been on another planet this year.
