8 inches of snow and -5 windchill here in NJ so I have to do something productive indoors....mock draft it is.
1st round- Rasheed Hageman, DT, Minnesota- A unique blend of size and athletic ability that is hard to find. He would fit as a huge upgrade at 1 tech as a rookie and then slowly transition over to 3 tech (if need be) as he starts to refine his game and adds a pass rush move or 2. The sky is the limit with Hageman really.
2nd round- Michael Sam, DE, Mizzu- His height,at barely 6'1, keps getting brought up as a deterrent for Sam, but head to toe height means nothing to me. What matters is overall length and Sam has that with 33 1/4" arms and a 80 1/4" wingspan (for comparison Trent Murphy is 6'5 and has 33 1/8 and 80 3/8 arms and span). With height out of the way there isn't a whole lot to dislike about Sam. Compact and strong with an incredible burst. He would fit perfectly as a SDE in our system.
3rd Round- Lache Seastrunk, RB, Baylor- No need for everyone to jump down my throat at once for this pick....This is the point where the shiny toy catches Jerry's eye and he makes the pick, but to be honest I wouldn't hate it. Seastrunk is probably 1 of the most naturally talented guys in the draft and has above average size to boot. This kid pretty much just has to stay out of his own way and he's destined for greatness.
4th Round- Jordan Tripp, LB, Montana- Gotta go with a small guy at some point right? Tripp is big and athletic with a ton of production at the D2 level. Honestly looks the part of a legit NFL prospect and has all the tools to do so. Overall great kid too, high risk/high reward pick in the 4th but 4-3 LB is very thing this year and we have a serious need there.
5th Round- Spencer Long, OG, Nebreska- Former walk-on who was a 2nd team all-american last year and a pre-season outland trophy nominee. Tore his ACL the very 1st game of the season so he drops but should be ready by the start of the season and is an excellent value in the 5th.
7th Round- Chris Whaley, DT, Texas- Gotta throw more bodies at the d line and hope some stick. Talent is not an issue with Whaley
7th Round- Marcus Lucas, WR, Mizzu- Just a giant athlete at 6'4 220. Who knows, maybe he puts something together and realizes what a natural gift he was born with. Mizzu's offense doesn't exactly let WR's shine so who knows, could be a diamond in the rough.
7th Round- Keith Price, QB, Washington- Practice squad QB. I like him but height will probably hold him back
