Ive been quiet for the last month or so, but i have been reading and watching closely, everything to do with this team. so im gonna vent a little.

1. Coach Phillips- Tubby, Teddy Bear, Cupcake, Quiet easy going, the list goes on and on. truely i believe a coach has to have fire and some sort of way to put some fear in the players. to get them up for big games. i dont see any of that in Coach Phillips, i really doubt he has very much say in anything other than calling defensive plays which he only did the latter half of the season. basically he is just another puppet coach. i would fire him today.

2. Training Camp- this years training camp was a joke, this whole hard knocks stuff was nothing but a cupcake camp. this team in my opinion was never fully conditioned and ready for the up coming year, another let down in the latter half of the season put us out of the playoffs, its unbelivable how re-occuring this has become. hopefully the next coach will change all this sometime soon.

3. Terrell Owens- great player, still a #1 WR in this league, but a total distraction at all times, and more importantly a player who disrupts the chemisty of a team. too much machoism, egoism, self centered, etc etc, i would like to take trade offers, and move him in the offseason.

4. Tony Romo- i dont know where to start with him, BP biggest gripe with him was protecting the ball, he has not improved at all in that area, i am starting to believe he is not the answer, all he ever does is choke in meaningful games, this guy can make unbelievable plays one minute, and be a turnover machine the next, is it worth it? we truely gave away the Pittsburgh game, i cant explain the Eagle game, it was down right disasterous, and the bobble snap vs Seattle, all my non-cowboy friends remind me all the time he is a choker! i dont want to believe them, but im starting to think they are right.

5. High Priced Defense- what a mess, other than Ware, Ratliff, and Newman, i wouldnt lose any sleep over anyone else. there is too much invested in this defense to be so lousy at times. never in all my football watching life, have i ever seen a team runoff 70+ runs late in a game when the opponents knew you were trying to run the ball and eat up the clock. NEVER

6. Special Teams- Suck end of story.

7. This Team- All i can say is we have a PANZY team, there isnt one ounce of toughness in them, Too many EGO's, entirely too much media coverage on them, they are not even close to being a team, chemistry wise. its sad for me to say this, this team does not have a heart. if what i read is true about the return flight, i take things like that to heart and i wont waste the heartache rooting for this particular team, i could care less what happens to them in the offseason. i will not read about them everyday like i have for the last 20 years or more. if they dont care, why should i?

If i was Jerry Jones- i would hire a Mike Singletary type of coach, someone who isnt going to put up with player egos, someone who will run a tough camp, build a good team chemistry, play a somewhat conservative offense, with a hellacious defense, and take my chances from there. i would try and model my team somewhat like Tenn, Pitt, Balt, get back to hard nose football. run the ball and setup the pass. i think in the long run you will be more successful. just my 2 cents.

3) Disagree, downward spiral in progress. Football is a young mans game. Better than most, Jerry Rice class= never is, never was, never will be.

I agree with the toughness part!! It is football for crying out loud. It is a violent, brutal game where only the tough survive and you have to have a certain mentality imbeded in you to go out on that field
Remember what Emmitt said when asked what it was like to run the ball in the NFL? He said something like it was getting into a car accident at 60 miles an hour then getting up off the ground and doing it all over again
One of the head coach's main priorities is to infuse this mentality into his team. Face it most football players are like kids. They have been coddled most of their lives and ego fed. They need that person to push them to higher heights for the most part. The self motivators are the ones that are the true stars like Peyton Manning, but the majority need to be pushed to maximize their potential

Newman cost us big in Pittsburgh and against the Eagles. For the life of me, I don't understand why he can't play the ball instead of turning back around to tackle the receiver before it's even caught.

Nice Rant!

Agreed. Bye Bye Cupcake, but does that mean that Garrett takes over?

I think it's unanimous. No more training camp distractions.

3. Terrell Owens- great player, still a #1 WR in this league, but a total distraction at all times, and more importantly a player who disrupts the chemisty of a team. too much machoism, egoism, self centered, etc etc, i would like to take trade offers, and move him in the offseason.

Salary cap and signing bonus acceleration will prohibit this. Otherwise, I cut him to make a statment.

He's a choker and doesn't have that killer instinct. Forget about leadership ability. He does have talent though . Hopefully we will bring in a mentor that puts him on a short leash.

During the second half of the season, the Cowboys had to lead the league in 3 and outs. How about time of possession? They never consistently sustained long drives to give the defense a rest(one exception was the Commander game)....not to mention HORRIBLE field position game after game. Our special teams were atrocious. Our defense was playing stout unit those breakout runs. They were worn down from being on the field the entire first half. My 2 cents.

6. Special Teams- Suck end of story.

Touche'

Romo isn't losing any sleep, that's for sure.

Very sorry we missed out on Singletary. We need a coach that these undisciplined players will look up to and respect. Don't know that one is out there though.

Good post and I agree with much of what the OP and everyone else has said here.
The only thing I would add is I do not think Romo is all that bad. My opinion has been the same since BEFORE Aikman left. No team will ever win the big one if they can not protect the quarterback and there has been no protection in over 10 years. Heck that is WHY Aikman had to retire.

I remeber seeing Eric Williams beat the heck out of good defensive players like Reggie White and if anyone touched Aikman they had to deal with a very pissed off Eric Williams. Now we have Flosmell who will step out of the way to let the defense get to Romo. What do you expect to happen? Romo has no time to set up the recievers have no time to run the routes and the runningbacks have no holes to run through.
In 92-95 our offensive line was dominant and would open holes that nobody would touch Emmitt until he was well past the line of scrimmage and running wode open. Look back at one of the old games and see how a REAL offensive line blocks!

Hard Knocks was a totally unnecessary distraction for the team. The team should have been preparing itself completely without cameramen having opportunities to catch players being berated by coaches or replaying slow motion jogging along a shoreline (like, what the hell did that have to do with training camp in the first place?). Jerry Jones allowed the team to be placed beneath a spotlight which should've never been placed there in the first place. It set a bad example which promoted premature expectations for the season to come. That mistake can be laid solely at Jones' feet.
