My big concern with spending a 1st round pick on Gordon

I dont buy into the whole Wisconsin pedigree issues that some posters have with Gordon. I think Gordon will be a very dynamic runner in the NFL and one capable of running in any scheme you have. Add to that our line scheme mirrors 'consins and as a runner you have almost a perfect fit.

However......there is one issue keeping me of the first round bandwagon, and its not his production as a runner, but usage limitations early in his career.

Right now he has very little expirience in pass pro or *** a reciever. While the ability is there to develop, he is a player that as a rookie is likely going to have to come of the field much more then you would want out of a first round back. Especially considering Gurley, Ajayi, Coleman and Yeldon are all already ready to be 3 down backs and will significantly limit to need to give snaps to inferior backs like McFadden.

I won't be standing a ledge if we drafted Gordon in the first. He'll eventually master the third down game and once he does he could top 5 back in the NFL. But I just see to many limitations in 2015 for a team that needs a bell cow

Also, like several backs in this draft...Gordon has to improve his ball security. IIRC, he had among the higher fumble rates.

His 'issues' are largely correctable. If he's there, he'd seemingly be among the upper-tier considerations. He's obviously familiar with the scheme.

He might take a year to develop into an every down back, but... what other position can we find an first-year every down player at our spot in the first. A DE will mostly likely be behind D-Law, Hardy, and Mincey. A CB will likely be playing NB only this year... and even there he would have to compete with Mo. A LB would be a backup behind Lee. McClain, and Hitchens. A 3-tech would be behind Crawford. Anyone on the offense outside of a RB would be an immediate backup, other than the small possibility of finding a 2nd WR (but I think we are happy with Beasley and Williams there). There are going to be usage limitations with just about anyone, other than the one position I left out... 1-tech DT (which if Malcom Brown drops... I would have 0 trouble taking him), that is just a fact of life when it comes to adjusting to the pro game, but RB and 1-tech are the two position where a guy could come in right away and have a huge impact on our team... and that should count for something.

This draft seems so
unpredictable for this late in the season
but from what I can understand
I'll take Gordon

If you told me Gordon and Gurley were gone then a nice player should be there at 27, and some very nice RBs in the 2nd and/or 3rd rounds will be there as well.

Therefor the top two RBs go before our pick, it could work out even better, you never know.

Yeah, I like Gordon at 27 but those are issues. Ball security, pass pro, receiving are all fundamental for a starter in this league.

1 Techs have usage limitations because we dont use them on 3rd down. We slide Crawford over to rush the passer. Any 1 Tech, including Brown, is a 2 down player

Brown has some pass rusher in him you might be misinformed. He stays on the field and plays the quick man's game, very agile talent and unlikely to fall to us. He has been a DE earlier in his career.
I honestly think you pause between him and Gurley for your pick.
Gurley>Brown>O Odiggy> trade down

I wouldnt worry about Gordon too much right now,the chances he will be there at 27 is very small.

I think Gordon's stock has dropped a little in the last week or so. I have read several tidbits that call into question his ability to be a decent pro RB. In his defense, it has come to the time of the year where a lot of second guessing of players takes place. Gordon playing at Wisconsin seems to raise the most questions.

Fumbles are a bigger concern to me. Very few of the college RBs are actually good at pass blocking.

Fumbles:
Murray in 2014: 1 in 90

Gordon 1 in 52
Gurley 1 in 190

If it only came down in the 2 weeks leading up to the draft than it is likely a lie.

I actually prefer Tevin Coleman to Gordon so I hope someone else takes him before the Cowboys are ever tempted.

I think the odds of finding 2-3 starters (or very heavy contributors) in the 1st three rounds goes up if we don't take a Rd1 RB.
