My Biggest Worry

One thing I've always disliked about this team, is their inability to keep a level head after winning a big game.

Lets say we roll Philly tonight, first place in the Beast is ours - and suddenly we've won 4 straight.

This team is notorious for drinking the kool aid, guys start popping off at the mouth, and you can visibly see a less driven team after they win a 'big game'.

I felt that way last year after we beat the Bengals, when we played a very sloppy game but our players started to act like their **** didn't stink. Rewind to 07 when we beat the Packers, everyone couldn't wait to see a Patriots Cowboys rematch. A group of rather unheralded players suddenly became 13 pro bowlers.

The same core group of players are still on this team, hopefully history doesn't repeat itself. I keep telling myself each year that they learn from their mistakes, but they always seem to find a way to **** it up.

With that said, this also may be the 2009 Dallas Cowboys' greatest strength. My dad, former football coach - said it best. You can tell that this team is much more even keel, and a lot of it has to do with maturity. We're is a very young team, one of the youngest in the league if I'm not mistaken. But we've got a really solid mix of veterans that have been through the ups and downs. We've watched them grow up in front of our eyes so I'm expecting our core guys like Romo, Barber, Flo, Crayton (especially), Newman, James, Spears, Rat, Ware, Witten, etc to keep reminding this still very young team that even if we walk out of Philly in 1st place in the East to not get sucked. Because by God the media is going to try their best to bait them up.

We're going to win tonight, this is a much more cohesive team - its just a matter of how they handle the accolades.

Hopefully and I do mean hopefully, the past has taught some of our leaders it's one week at a time. I hear what you are saying, beating Philly might make them too comfortable but it's a chance I'll take.;)

Word.

I just worry that our coach doesn't let up on them. Jimmy used to be great at keeping his guys motivated after a big win. Hopefully Wade doesn't give them half the week off and they get to wear shorts and helmets all week.

Well said! This it what separates good coaches from great ones. It is time for Wade to step up!!

That was my worry after beating Atlanta. Remeber, that game "geligitimized" them, so I feared they' lay eggs after thay. Instead they came out the next week with the same detemined focus. So I no longer worry.

That's my take. Atlanta was supposed to be a big game, right? Well they won a big one then blew out a lesser opponent the next game. It looks like they're on the right track. The question is how do we judge them after tonight? If they stink up the place and get clobbered, then they haven't evolved enough. If they come out and play a hard fought game, whether they win or lose, we'll know they're still on the right path.

The thing about this team is that they are talented enough to not play well and still always be in the game. See the NY game and the Denver game, we had no business being in those games - but we still had a chance to win.

I don't think they'll be able to get away with that tonight, they've got to play good football in all 3 phases.

Why is this an assumption here?

Told ya'll this team is notorious for reading their headlines and thinking they just need to 'show up'. This goes on the squarely on the coaches for not keeping their foot up this teams ***.

He didn't keep them on their grind. He kept telling everyone how good they were.

This week they were not ready. And we see a 3-4 every week. This goes squarely on both our head coaches.

Just to play devil's advocate, which I like to do: The team had won four straight, showing some semblence of being able to string wins together and not get full of itself. They obviously did that during the 13-win season as well (can you win 13 games if you get big-headed after every win and lose the following one?).

They were going to lose at some point, and you could easily say "oh, they've started reading the press clippings" whenever that loss crept up.

Again, just playing devil's advocate.

The Packers just got beat by the 1-8 Bucs. The Bucs put up 48 points against that vaunted Packers defense that suddenly looked like the Blitzburgh version of the 3-4.

There weren't really any press clippings to read though...all of our wins have been swiftly dismissed by the media.

And Washington beat Denver today, and Philly once lost to Oakland. It's a strange league, and stats don't usually transfer from one week to another.

But the Bucs hung 48 on them. They were without their best pass rusher. Sure we lost Colombo but we made that defense look special today. Again, the Bucs scored 48 points against them. How many did we put up?
